Perth Film and Television Institute facing funding cut

WA not-for-profit group has been told it will lose Screen Australia funding in 2015.

2014-08-22_1546Perth’s Film and Television Institute is contemplating its future after being told last month by Screen Australia that its funding will end in mid-2015.

The $240,000 funding is about 10-15% of the institute’s annual income, but is set to go following cuts to Screen Australia in the government’s May budget.

The not-for profit FTI has been operating, in one form or another, for 40 years in Perth fostering WA film and television talent and screen culture.

This includes an array of courses, events, Indigenous development, production support and networking.

FTI CEO Paul Bodlovich told Fairfax Media, “We have to be realistic and closing down the organisation is one option.

“The other options are to evolve and build the organisation or something in between and have a simple business model.”

“The industry needs new blood coming in and FTI is a really important part of that,” Mr Bodlovich said.

It’s not yet clear if the funding loss will result in programs being cut or jobs lost.

  1. I find this a very sad time for TV and Film in Australia. Big blow for Perth. Melbourne also last year lost a Television Broadcasting course at Box Hill Tafe Institution. I know many of the people I work with in Melbourne have come through these courses.
It’s just a shame that these things happen and the teachers loose out as well.
    Sad.
