Renewed: Happy Valley

Hit UK drama coming to ABC gets a second season.

2014-08-19_1512UK police drama Happy Valley, which will be coming to the ABC, has been renewed for a second season.

The drama, created by Sally Wainwright (Last Tango In Halifax, Scott and Bailey) stars Sarah Lancashire, as a police sergeant whose world is turned upside down when the man she thinks is responsible for her daughter’s death is released from prison.

It was a hit on BBC ONE with a weekly consolidated audience of almost 8 million, running for 6 weeks.

Charlotte Moore, Controller, BBC One, says: “Sally Wainwright’s sensational series gripped the nation. Visceral, emotional and provocative from beginning to end, it was fantastic to see our audience on tenterhooks, begging for more. The series is testimony to the creative ambition, quality and breadth of original British drama on BBC One and I can’t wait for the second series to begin.”

Executive producer Nicola Shindler says: “Sally created a truly magnificent series with very real, complex characters, an engaging plot and breathtaking storyline. I am delighted that we will be able to delve deeper into Catherine’s world in series two.”

The second series will go into production in 2015, to be broadcast in the UK later in the year.

A date for the Australian broadcast has not been announced.
