Seven, Nine tie for Monday, TEN slips without Glasgow.

Ratings: It's a tug of war for first place between 2 tough competitors, but TEN is beaten by ABC.

2014-08-05_1106After the glory of the Commonwealth Games, TEN has landed with a thud -back in fourth position with its 5pm News as its highest-rated show for the night and ONE back to usual numbers. Undoubtedly they will be looking for a lift tomorrow night with The Bachelor and Offspring.

Seven and Nine networks both tied on 30.7% each, followed by ABC 18.3%, TEN 15.7% and SBS 4.6%.

Nine managed to pip Seven in primary channel shares and Nine News (1.17m / 1.14m) topped the night. Next were The Block (1.11m), ACA (1.03m), House Husbands (954,000), Hot Seat (651,000) and the brazenly titled Extraordinary Lives: My Granny The Escort (458,000). Footy Classified was 178,000 in 3 cities.

At 11pm Brynne: My Bedazzled Diary (180,000) was buried at 11pm. Talking Footy was 48,000 in 3 cities (119,000 on 7mate).

ABC News (844,000) topped ABC then 7:30 (806,000), Australian Story (784,000), Four Corners (605,000), Media Watch (524,000) and an extended Q & A (469,000).

  1. Dropped off to sleep a few times during TAR. Noticed even 7 agreed the audio was so bad in many places that they had to add subtitles. Why do we have to air it on Monday because NZ airs it on Tues. Who cares?
Not great figures. just a few above MDMinute.

  2. Didn’t watch Amazing Race as it finished too late, but hope to catch up later in the week. Shame Seven couldn’t air this on Wednesday or Thursday in an earlier slot. Hope they might reconsider.

  3. I think they should replay TARAu sometime later in the week (maybe Wednesday @ 7:30 or Thursday @ 8. I would watch it again over anything on TV that night). Yes, the show has to be on Monday because it’s on in NZ on Tuesday but you might as well get your money’s worth that you invested in the show.

  4. Well ch10 back to where it belongs these days. A few weeks of deserved glory, but due to the lack of planning or visionary programming it looks like they will be stuffed again….

  5. Some bad scheduling from Seven with Amazing Race starting at 9.07pm and running for two hours, so it ended up with a very poor debut. Why not run it earlier in the night on Tue, Wed or Thu?

  6. Good to see Family Feud got such huge numbers, must be poor considering it is on 3 channels and only managed 214k.

Me thinks that the whole 3 channel thing may have backfired on TEN. It is taking numbers away from BH 90210 and when added together I have not got the time to delve into whether it, family feud is getting more numbers across the 3 channels, than the shows it replaced ?

Come on TEN put the other shows back where they were, start the Project at 6.00 and move forward put Family feud where it should be, and is probably prior to the news……about 14 hours before or even more about 3 am in the morning is where I think it should be.

  7. Surely HYPBA survives axing because it’s relatively cheap first run Australian content. No expensive offsite challenges or flashy sets, just 5 comedians and a couple writers (plus crew obviously) answering questions with jokes.

Is it the greatest show ever? No. Will it ever get 1.5 million viewers? No. But I’d argue it’s simple weekly fun that’s a point of difference to reality on 7/9 and serious stuff on ABC. If Ten’s overall audience can pick up, this show will rise a bit too.

  8. Ten really should’ve had something ready to go Sunday – Tuesday at 7.30 to take advantage of the bigger eyeballs on them over the last ten days and viewers beginning to tire of more of The Block and X Factor.

Next week will be even worse when Offspring disappears. Wonderland is not a worthy successor to the timeslot at all.

  9. @Pete HYBPA dropped 121k from last episode. It lost 661k of its lead in numbers. Admittedly, its not doing great numbers but what is outside of Comm Games, MCAus and Offspring lately on Ten??
I’d argue the whole schedule past 7.30 needs fixing but that will take time. Hopefully they pick up in the numbers soon.

  10. Rather than bury footy classified at the ridiculous time of 11pm why not air it at the earlier time of 7.30 or 8.30pm on GEM. Gem is in major need of some new content. It’s just a channel full or reruns. I don’t watch talking footy but I do like that they air the show early on 7mate and then later on 7. Maybe a similar thing could be done for footy classified. Every week the timeslot changes for footy classified and its hard to keep up. If it’s on a multi channel it would more likely have a stable time as what could delay it a rerun of some sort.

Still the nines catch up site is stating footy classified is on at 9.50pm. Well it hasn’t been that time for approximately 2-3 weeks. Well if nine doesn’t know what time its meant to air how is the viewer meant to know.

  11. doesn’t seam to be much point of seven and nine splitting news ratings into half hour blocks as the difference between the two half hours always seems to be minuscule, unlike the project where the is more of a difference.

  12. HYBPA continues to bomb. I think Ten would be happy with the David Attenborough numbers but 8.30 and 9.30 slots need some work done pronto.

Amazing Race needs to be repeated Thursday night because the casting of this series is really good and it is a shame that the initial episode establishing the characters did not start until 9.15.
