Time for the Assange telemovie replay?

With news stories on Julian Assange, it would be timely for TEN to replay its Underground telemovie.

Alex+Williams+as+Julian+Assange+(2)Timing is everything in television, especially when it comes to reacting to news events.

Last week TEN cleverly scheduled Mrs. Doubtfire on the day Robin Williams died and got their best numbers all week.

Earlier this year Nine was in a tailspin over the timing of its Schapelle telemovie, partly because of Sevens INXS miniseries and principally because Corby was being released in Bali. Ironically Nine had set the telemovie set for what turned out to be her day of release, but panicked because it felt the news story would be over by then.

With news of Julian Assange’s impending exit from the Ecuador embassy in London, I’m wondering if TEN may decide to rerun its telemovie Underground: The Julian Assange Story starring Alex Williams, Rachel Griffiths and Anthony LaPaglia.

It was last screened in October 2012 and did very well for TEN: 1.33m viewers -its best numbers since Masterchef 2012.

Compare that to TEN’s most recent Sunday night movie Star Trek just 377,000.

But if a replay is on the cards, TEN will want to time it with his Assange’s exit and the flurry of media that follows and there may be no notice on what day that is.
