Airdate: The Leftovers

When 2% of the world’s population abruptly disappears during 'The Rapture' what happens to those who didn't make the cut?

2014-09-19_0104Foxtel will finally launch HBO drama The Leftovers next month, 4 months after its US premiere.

Based on the bestselling novel by Tom Perrotta, the series takes place after ‘The Rapture’ when 2% of the world’s population abruptly disappears without explanation and the world struggles to come to terms with what happened. Three years later, it follows Kevin Garvey (Justin Theroux), a father of two and the chief of police in a small New York suburb, as he tries to maintain some semblance of normalcy when the notion no longer applies, and the people who didn’t make the cut.

The series is created by Lost co-creator Damon Lindelof and Tom Perrotta.

It received generally favorable reviews and has been renewed for a second season.

Ross Crowley, Director of Programming & Channels, recently told TV Tonight, “The Leftovers has come out with a lot of questions so we thought it would be better to get a number of episodes together and explain how it works.

“Everybody who saw the previews said ‘We need to see at least 2 to make this work.’ In America they’ve played it (as singles) and it hasn’t necessarily fired as strongly as it could have.”

8:30pm Tuesday October 14 on Showcase.

  1. @MuchoTB – I agree, watched the whole season as it’s an interesting premise and I kept hoping it would get better. It just gets worse with unlikeable characters, questions that I’m pretty sure won’t be answered (esp given Lindelof’s involvement) and such an incredibly slow pace with no pay off. I enjoy slower shows such as Rectify, True Detective and Les Revenants but there needs to be a pay off. There isn’t one with The Leftovers.

  2. I have watched the whole series. It is fantastic. Unlike almost any other show. A little slow but very rewarding.Stick with it. Highly highly recommended.

  3. I watched the first episode and thought it was pretty weak and confusing. If a new show doesn’t grab you from the start and make you anticipate the next episode with excitement, it’s a fail from me.
