2014-09-03_0042Next week SBS launches a four-part series Wild Britain, which showcases Britain’s landscape over an entire year.

The range of seasons in Britain are as extraordinary as the climate is unique. The splendour of the autumn colour change is as magnificent as anywhere on earth, while the animal migration is of planet-wide importance.

Beautiful time-lapse photography illustrates how the landscape is changing minute by minute, day by day, month by month – from a waterfall freezing solid to an entire hillside of heather bursting with colour. Animated ‘chlorophyll maps’ pinpoint the places where the first green shoots start to grow in spring and the last leaves fall in autumn, while slow-motion techniques capture magical moments, like owls hunting in the snow and the violent battles between sika deer.

Wild Britain is an enchanting series that reveals why Britain’s climate is so unique and why the country’s relationship with its wildlife is so enduring and so special.

Episode One: January to March (Winter)
Starting on New Year’s Day, this episode follows Britain in the grip of winter as it experiences the coldest temperatures of the year. All wildlife must cope with the cold. Red Kites track the farmers as they plough the hard ground uncovering grubs and worms. Owls use their super sensitive hearing to dive on voles through the covering of snow. As spring moves in a visible line across the country, woodland floors are carpeted with snowdrops. In London, the grass is growing and people rush to mow garden lawns.

  1. I too love these Docos and have SBS on my PVR every Wed and Sat @ 7:30 so I don’t miss any great docos. They key is consistency. I know that every week in these time slots there will be a doco.
Shame other networks don’t programme for consistency to build loyal viewers!
