Axed: Nurse Jackie to end with Season 7

Edie Falco and co. will return for one last hurrah in 2015.

2014-04-01_1114To be honest, it’s lasted a lot longer than I had expected…

Nurse Jackie will wrap with a final 7th season to air in 2015.

Showtime has tweeted, “#NurseJackie is working one last shift! Join us in celebrating and bidding farewell to the 7th & FINAL season in 2015.”

The series has long been a critical favourite, principally for the performance of star, Edie Falco.

Falco was nominated for yet another Emmy for S6 which returned in Australia on ELEVEN this week.

“Edie is one of our finest actresses,” Showtime president David Nevins said. “We are so honored to have had her on the network. She creates indelible characters and Nurse Jackie Peyton is no exception. I know this final season will bring her story to a close that will satisfy the ever-growing number of loyal viewers who have been entranced and, at times, appalled by Jackie through the years. I want to thank Edie, the incredible cast of Nurse Jackie and [showrunner] Clyde Phillips and [exec producer] Richie Jackson who have led the show to the success that it is today.”

Season seven will also feature Tony Shalhoub (Monk) as a new ER doc.

  1. It hasn’t been the same since Eve Best left.

The way S5 has started they could have wound it up by the end of it. I guess we will see if they still had plenty left to say or if it is just being dragged out for one more season.

  2. I agree David, I’m surprised it has lasted as long as it has given its difficult subject matter. I have loved the journey with Jackie and am pleased it will end before it implodes (or she becomes a lumberjack!). The depiction of an addict has been very real. The series has been brave by not glamourising an addicts life and showing the absolute depths of despair and awful behaviour that an addict can be driven to, even at the risk of alienating the audience from the protagonist. I’m looking forward to this season, it seems everything has finally caught up with her!

  3. Odd show that I’ve come to love – when you think the episode is just meandering up pops a subtle comment on society or an in your face moment that can leave you in awe.

  4. Shame to see it go, but I’d rather it end on a high rather than see it dragged out just for money like 2.5 Men, Smallville, and One Tree Hill. They all should have ended much earlier than they did\are.

  5. I agree with you, David. This lasted much longer than it actually should have.
The past few seasons were hit and miss affairs, with the lead character really difficult to empathise or even understand through large sections of it.
Always great work, but I am glad they are winding this up as the steam has run out a while ago.
