Beware spoilers on death of a Simpsons character

A 'beloved' character is about to expire and Aussie fans will be hard-pressed to avoid hearing about it.

the-simpsons-season-26-10From late-morning tomorrow, US entertainment websites will be buzzing with news of the death of a Simpsons character.

New episodes will air in Australia on ELEVEN early next year, but TEN is yet to confirm if it will fast-track the season premiere due to its sensitive storyline.

The episode, “Clown in the Dumps”, kicks off Season 26 with the demise of another Springfield resident.

Executive producer Al Jean told TVLine, “I’ve done everything I can to temper any disappointment by saying that, although the press is claiming this is an ‘iconic’ character, we never said that.

“We just said it’s a ‘beloved’ character. I think it may have become overhyped, though I’ve never heard the term ‘underhyped’ before. Either way, it’s an emotional story, and it’s one we’re really proud of.”

True. But he did say “This is going to be a bigger deal than King Joffrey on Game of Thrones – the Yellow Wedding!”

He also previously hinted, “The character that dies is portrayed by an actor who won an Emmy for playing that character.”

Dan Castellaneta has previously won an Emmy for The Simpsons for his “various characters” including Krusty the Clown, as has Kelsey Grammer for voicing Sideshow Bob, and Jackie Mason for Rabbi Krustofski, Krusty’s father.

Jean noted that while the character “isn’t going to come back from the dead,” Jean says it’s entirely possible that they’ll “live on in (a certain character)‘s memory.”

  1. Can’t see them killing off anyone of real import-and in any case the surreal nature of the show means no one is truly dead if the makers want to use them in a ‘special’ ep like the Tree House of Horror type-that being said, after more than 25 years on air. the list of voice talent who have died in real life is starting to add up…

  2. Either Krusty’s dad (who has only been in three episodes, weak choice IMO) or Sideshow Mel/Bob. They have been hyping up this thing wayyyyyy too much – especially the FOX network, sending out press about it 6 months before the episode even aired. A bit desperate I reckon

  3. Well the title pretty well gives it away that the death is most impacted by Krusty. My guess is that it’s Sideshow Mel, voiced by Emmy award winning Dan Castellaneta or Mr Teeny, the chimp, also voiced by Dan.
Sideshow Bob dying wouldn’t have the greatest impact to Krusty, as they haven’t associated in years.

  4. As far as spoilers go, you can’t get anymore blatant than this. The title of the episode, the fact that the actor won an Emmy for the character and that Bart and Lisa grew up with this character as their favourite TV show. The idea of spoilers is silly anyway. It reminds me of those people who queued for days to get the new iPhone when you can go into any store now and buy it anyway.
