Big Brother launch begins

Big Brother begins filming today. Here's what to expect.... Warning: Possible Spoilers!

2014-09-07_0157POSSIBLE SPOILERS:

Cameras will officially roll on Big Brother with host Sonia Kruger today on the Gold Coast, ahead of its premiere tomorrow night on Nine.

Traditionally the show films 24 hours in advance of its screening, in order to allow for editing and on-air promotion.

This year the show airs at 8:40pm most weeknights, due to The Block being on air, but it remains with a PG timeslot rather than M classification. In part this is due to Nine having re-branded the show as “family friendly” (although the timeslot contradicts this somewhat) and the likelihood that the show will return to a 7:30pm start once The Block ends around October 13th.

A new, Big Brother Live will be filmed in front of a studio audience each Monday. A late-night show will air on Sundays. Eviction night will be Tuesdays (likely to pit it against Seven’s Dancing with the Stars). Nominations take place on Wednesdays.

Early information about the “Eye of the Storm” season has already hit online sites.

Confirmed:

Housemates include a midwife, radiographer, estate agent, hairdresser, budding magician and a wannabe rock star. Two are not Australian born and bred.

The house has 2 levels and is based around ‘old-school Miami cool with a touch of Hollywood glamour.’ The outdoor area of the house has a Mediterranean look. The kitchen has a tropical theme, and there is a food truck outside.

A treehouse exists.

2014 is the year of power. Every week a new power will be introduced, and a new housemate will hold the power. Money will play a major part.

“This year we are doing something that has never been done the way we are doing it so the eyes of the BB world will be on us – it is exciting” -producer Alex Mavroidakis.

Vote to Save remains -with an early twist.

The Diary Room chair has wings.

A Hidden Retreat has a Bali theme.

Mike Goldman is back on board.

Unconfirmed:

12 housemates to enter on launch night. Housemates will be paired off into ‘couples’ with one couple holding power at a time, asked by Big Brother to reward or punish other couples, such as a vow of silence. One of the challenges will be for couples to be blindfolded for 8 hours.

All couples will eat, sleep and nominate together while also competing against the other couples.

Housemates include:
Priya Malik (Posh Spice)
Dion Kallis (Gym Junkie)
Katie Schepis (Katie Cupcake)
Lawson Reeves (Mandurah Magician)
Gemma Kinghorn (Fiery Redhead)

Upstairs has the Diary Room and a possible ‘loft’ area to allow housemates to spy on others using hidden TV screens and earpieces.

Big Brother airs 8:40pm Monday on Nine.

  1. A crew member leaked photos of all 16 housemates (12 that entered last night + 4 to enter Tuesday)

behindbigbrother.com reports that security was tight in the auditorium, and that the audience were sent home before the full power twist was revealed, due to leaks of the show appearing online

  2. As usual the show launches with a stupid gimmick, this years being the couples thing.
It probably won’t be as bad as last years divided house though.
Anyway BB never gets interesting until about the 3rd or 4th week anyway, once all the twists are done and dusted.

  3. Housemates include:
    Priya Malik (Posh Spice)
    Dion Kallis (Gym Junkie)
    Katie Schepis (Katie Cupcake)
    Lawson Reeves (Mandurah Magician)
    Gemma Kinghorn (Fiery Redhead)

    Yawn. Already uninterested.

  4. I’ve not watched BB since 2004 but will comment anyway. 8.40pm is a ridiculous time for this show. 7pm was great when I tuned in. Short sharp & over before your evening set in. Predict many viewers may watch online at their preferred time. Bad planning for 9 to have two reality shows both requiring the same/similar time slot. In addition it will be hard for viewers to commit to a show during this time slot every night of the week. Many viewers might watch Amazing Race, Wonderland, W & L, Uropia, Criminal Minds etc and may be reluctant to switch & watch BB every night. I’ve also just noticed Mon, Tue e& Wed episodes goes to 22.10! Seriously? An hour and a half? What’s wrong with 30 minutes? Can people really commit to watching people talk for 90 minutes everyday?

Good luck to them. I predict a flop in this time slot.

  5. They obviously saw how having people of indian descent as villains was ratings gold for MKR and are going down the same route with the ‘Posh Spice’ housemate.
