Airdate: The Flash

Not quite here in a flash, new superhero series will premiere on FOX8 in December.

2014-09-30_1053Foxtel has now confirmed an airdate for new US superhero series, The Flash.

It will premiere 7:30pm Wednesday December 3rd on FOX8 -although the series premiered in the US last week.

Developed by Greg Berlanti, Andrew Kreisberg and Geoff Johns it stars Grant Gustin (Glee) who has appeared as the same character in Arrow.

Foxtel’s Director of Programming & Channels, Ross Crowley, recently told TV Tonight not all new titles would be fast-tracked to Australian viewers.

“We learned a couple of lessons, one of them is that fast-tracking very first episodes of a brand new show that nobody has seen means that quite often people will miss the first eps,” he said.

One of the most anticipated new programs on offer is the Warner Bros. superhero saga and Arrow spinoff, The Flash. The series stars Grant Gustin (Glee) as Barry Allen, a scientist who is exposed to radiation from a particle accelerator. Barry gains the ability to move at super-speed and dedicates his life to solving mysteries, fighting criminals… and determining who killed his mother.

  1. Maybe they are waiting until nine finishes season 2 of Arrow, which I think is the right thing to do. I don’t mind waiting, even though I’m looking forward to The Flash. At the moment I’m trying to keep up with new season eps of The Blacklist, Agents of Sheild, The Good Wife, DWTS, while still watching final eps of Please Like Me, Masters of Sex and Arrow and sampling other shows. Just because these shows are bombared at the same time in the US, does it mean that we have to see them all at once too. It’s too many shows for this time of year in Aus I think.

  2. I’m with Qubec and David, Crowley was talking bollocks. Even Foxtel’s own media release states that it is “[o]ne of the most anticipated new programs on offer…” so why wait two months to show it?

How long does it take for people to get excited about a new drama anyway? You could justify a delay of two weeks max on that basis. There are other things in play here like wanting to have a strong start to the traditional non-ratings period for the run in to summer.

  3. It appears more crossovers of shows are happening. I’ve read somewhere that there is going to be a Chicago fire, Chicago pd and law and order svu crossover.

  4. Why would anyone bother watching this on Foxtel? The amount of crossover and references the producers have eluded to between this and Arrow is going to be significant. It’ll be lost on viewers who won’t see how story lines finish up. Not to mention the significant delay.
Also, the idea that “fast-tracking very first episodes of a brand new show that nobody has seen means that quite often people will miss the first eps” is just incredibly poor insight into their own business. Promote a show and fans will watch it. The idea that word of mouth is the sole reason people view a show is ridiculous. Secondly, they are specifically set up for repeat viewing, through multiple airings, On Demand and through their online catch up service. They should be fast tracking everything they can to show they are a worthwhile investment. As it is, their audience is going to be eroded by Netflix.

  5. I wish between now & then FOX8 could air S2 of Arrow & then take over airing Arrow from nine & start up S3 so that the shows could air together since they’re likely to be connected & have crossovers…
