Daylight saving turns back Live TV

Sunrise, Today, Q & A, X Factor, Big Brother, The Project -the clock turns back on TV too.

2012-10-07_0031A reminder to viewers, especially those outside of Sydney and Melbourne, that Daylight Saving is now in effect.

Live shows from Sydney and Melbourne will now be screening on a further one hour delay, such as Sunrise, Today, and ABC News Breakfast (although viewers can still watch ABC News Breakfast Live AEDT on ABC News 24).

Q & A will be delayed on ABC in non-Daylight Saving states but can be seen Live on ABC News 24 at 9:35pm AEDT. The Project will also be affected along with morning shows on Seven, Nine and TEN.

The X Factor will be delayed by one hour in some states.

Big Brother Live shows will no longer be live in Queensland.

This will also impact on Voting times on these kinds of shows.

Foxtel programming will now air an hour earlier in Queensland, Western Australia and the Northern Territory.

Twitter and social media comments will be affected on Big Brother, X Factor, Q & A, The Project and shows that engage in Live audience reactions. Beware of possible spoilers.

  1. I don’t get daylight savings, It should be during winter when it gets dark at 5:30.
I hate it when it’s the middle of summer, your hot and sweaty and the sun doesn’t go down until 9pm. Rediculous.

  2. Most of the content is still timeslot specific. I doubt viewers in South Australia would want to be seeing the countdown to midnight New Years Eve happening live at 11:30pm.

  3. Nine Brisbane isn’t prepared to broadcast reality TV shows earlier, but they throw everything out the window to broadcast the NRL grand final live. Within six weeks or so, it will be light here at 4:30am and dark at 6:30pm. Surely it would be so much better for it to be light at 5:30am and dark at 7:30pm…? Early shift workers get up in the dark in winter, so what difference does it make if they’re getting up in the dark for a few weeks extra and the start and end of DST?

  4. Sometimes I just wish QLD would fall into line, right now the sun is rising before 5:30 and that is old going to get worse as the summer comes on. I know the cows don’t care what the time is and will still get milked according to the sun and not our clocks so what’s it matter if we change them, it’s not like the cows in NSW/VIC were confused this morning!

@Secret Squirrel – yes shows will still be on at the same times as last week here in QLD unless it’s a proper live sport event, then depending where it’s from it may be an hour earlier. Best bet is to check and double check your guides.

An example, the Foxtel online guide have SBS HD and SBS listed for those with Austar boxes. One is via satellite the other ground based and local so now one is an hour earlier. Good for time shifting programs but just keep it in mind for those in QLD.

There is always a period of adjustment…

  5. I know many people love DLS….but it sure messes around with a lot of things…I know we get extra daylite at the end of the day…but means early workers get up in the dark…etc…I did not vote for it…
And besides …the extra hour fades my curtains… 😉

  6. Just to clarify in case others scratch their heads like I did at first (it’s only 8:30am here) – when you say that live Mel and Syd shows will be delayed for other states (QLD, WA, and NT), they will still be broadcast at the same time locally (eg Q&A at 9:35pm) but will now be on an additional 1 hour delay from the Mel/Syd broadcast.

So Q&A will still be shown at 9:35 in all states but for QLD viewers it will be delayed by an hour instead of live and for WA viewers it will be delayed by 3 hours instead of 2. And any news on Sunrise and Today will be 3 hours old by the time WA viewers hear it instead of “only” 2.

@Vinny – if you’re asking about BB, the live shows will be recorded 1 hour earlier so that they can go to air at the same time in the two biggest markets (Mel & Syd). It won’t be live in QLD because Nine won’t want to bump the programs that they have on…

  7. This is ridiculous!
All states should adjust clocks forward 1/2 an hour!
Ridiculous that BB is not live in Qld, when it is filmed here! Glad I don’t watch it!
