2014-10-21_2134Wendy Harmer is guest on tonight’s episode of Home Delivery as she takes Julia Zemiro on a drive through the Dandenongs.

This week Wendy Harmer takes the drive back down memory lane with Julia Zemiro meeting her right outside the place where her comedy career was born Рthe site of the Last Laugh caf̩ in Melbourne. Wendy then takes Julia on a tour of the old building and describes the glory days of the iconic venue. Wendy reminisces about her first gigs there and what a joy it was to get to hold a mic and say what she thought.

They then hop into an old EH Holden and drive to the Dandenongs where Wendy spent part of her childhood. At the very moment they drive under the Puffing Billy trestle bridge towards Selby Primary School, the vintage steam train comes into view and Wendy is as delighted by the sight now as she was as a little girl.

The daughter of a school principal, she and her tight-knit clan moved around a great deal but Selby holds a special place in her heart. In the school library, she talks about her father’s love of literature and how he passed his passion for words on to his children. Sitting amongst the bush under the old trestle bridge, Wendy talks candidly with Julia about growing up with a double cleft palate and opens up about her mother’s decision to leave her young family and move interstate.

In this extended Home Delivery episode Wendy gives a highly moving and personal account of her childhood, career and role as a devoted wife and mother.

9pm Wednesday ABC.
