Netflix has released a teaser for its lavish period miniseries Marco Polo.
The drama created by John Fusco (Young Guns II) centres on the explorer’s journey that takes him to the centre of a brutal war in 13th century China, with martial arts, sexual intrigue, political skullduggery and spectacular battles.
Filmed in Venice, Kazakhstan and Malaysia, it stars Italian actor Lorenzo Richelmy in the title role.
Australia’s own Remy Hii (Better Man) also features in this, but I couldn’t spot him in this teaser.
I’ve long been saying TV needs an Asian equivalent of Game of Thrones with costume, landscapes, history, martial arts, passion ….looks like we are getting close.
It launches in the US in December.

Oddly enough, this was not filmed in China!-Italy, Kazakhstan (accurate historically) and Malaysia!
Has Netflix held onto the rights for their launch or is it again via Sony so will end up on Showcase?
