Marlisa wins The X Factor 2014

Marlisa has defeated Dean Ray to snatch the coveted title for 2014.

marlissa15 year old schoolgirl Marlisa Punzalan has won The X Factor for 2014.

She defeated runner-up Dean Ray and lands a recording contract with Sony Music.

“I just can’t believe it. I feel like I’m floating on a cloud. Thank you so much Australia, I coudn’t have done it without you,” she said.

In third place was sibling trio Brothers 3 who were eliminated mid-show.

Host Luke Jacobz said public voting was just a 0.01 difference in the vote.

The marathon finale included all Top 13 acts plus international guests Taylor Swift, Guy Sebastian, Olly Murs and Jessica Mauboy. But it was a spectacular show by FremantleMedia with dancers, pyrotechnics and elaborate lighting.

This season hasn’t matched its predecessors in terms of TV ratings, but the show has a strong track record in elevating its participants to showbiz careers including Reece Mastin, Samantha Jade, Dami Im, Nathaniel, Taylor Henderson and The Collective.

Seven has already announced its audition tour for 2015.

  1. Marlisa is known for her expressive face, so I’m sure she won’t feel too haunted by the photo! I really thought that Brothers 3 would make the Top 2, and I’m disappointed that they didn’t, because the Top 2 usually have a full CD of most of their performances released (as opposed to an EP for the act who finishes 3rd). Taylor Henderson was initially more popular than Dami Im (his debut single spent longer at #1 than hers and was also a much bigger radio hit), but while Dami has seen Top 15 success with all of her singles over the past year (two have peaked at #11), Taylor’s last two singles have missed the Top 40 completely. It remains to be seen what will happen long term.

  2. I suggest refreshing the judging panel, making the production shorter, and just having new ideas for the show would make it better and gain more viewers…

  3. Extremely disappointed in the result, but I can’t complain… I didn’t vote.

Lets see how long she lasts… *wonders where Jai Waetford is now, hopefully back in school*

  4. Oh gosh, that photo is going to haunt her for the rest of her life!

Congrats. Not my choice but I certainly couldn’t have done what she did.

Now, Reigan just needs to get a record deal and release some music!!!!

  5. Seven’s announced the winner on Facebook while the show was still running in Queensland. Freed me up to turn over to American Horror Story:Freak Show. I wonder how many more viewers they lost in other states also.
Seven needs to remember that not everyone lives in NSW or Vic.

  6. Think everyone was expecting Dean to win but agree with Rutzie, Dean and Nat did not look upset so also think he will have a Sony contract and will do well. Marlisa is very good and has an excellent voice which will only get better with age, and even if she slips out of the limelight for a while, while still studying, which is important to her, feel that she will come back stronger and better than ever, and be very successful.

  7. I do hope Reigan Derry gets a contract with Sony, she was hands down the most consistent performer throughout the series.

I must say that X Factor Australia producers some great talent, whereas The Voice Australia can not compete… Where are all their winners or even people that competed??? You never hear anything about them!

  8. I’m pretty sure Dean will get a deal with Sony as well. He and Nat didn’t look that disappointed that he didn’t win. It’s going to be interesting to see where Marlisa’s career goes now. Like last year with Taylor doing better than Dami I can see the same here with Dean being more successful than Marlisa.

  9. Definitely a surprise result. Thought she’d be the least likely to win out of brothers 3, Dean and Reigan. Dean and Reigan were just consistent performers (and who regularly made it in iTunes), and brothers 3 seemed to have a fanbase that would support them with anything. Marlisa just didn’t seem to be that strong a fave I thought. Tend to also have concerns about her age.

Surprising too that Marlisa and last years winner Dami Im are both of Asian heritage. Coincidence or is there some big Asian support base out there for these sorts of things.

  10. Disappointed Dean or Brothers 3 didn’t win. In my opinion Marlisa should not have made the top 3 over Reigan or the others

Still, this is the best season the show has had. Dami Im Taylor and Jai were all very boring performers last year ; didn’t even bother watching the final last year; but this year has been great
