Melissa George to re-create role on The Slap (US)

Melissa George will again play Rosie, mother to 5-year-old Hugo for the NBC miniseries.

2012-10-06_1852Melissa George will re-create her role from ABC’s The Slap in the US version being produced for NBC.

George will again play Rosie, mother to 5-year-old Hugo who is struck by a family friend at a backyard bbq, which splinters a group of friends.

She joins previously-announced cast Peter Sarsgaard, Mary-Louise Parker, Zachary Quinto and Brian Cox.

Thandie Newton has also been cast as Aisha, Hector’s wife, originally played by Sophie Okonedo.

Jon Robin Baitz (The West Wing, Brothers & Sisters) has adapted the series and serves as an executive producer alongside Walter Parkes, Laurie MacDonald, Ted Gold and original producer, Tony Ayres.

Lisa Cholodenko will direct.

  1. Wow, Melissa George, Mary-Louise Parker and Brian Cox? I’ll give it a go 🙂 I loved the Australian version – it was absolutely brilliant. Although, this US version doesn’t have diversity of races/cultures, which is disappointing.

  2. Melissa was terrific in the Aus version so great that she has the opportunity to do the role again. She was built a good reputation for herself in the States with her stand out roles in The Good Wife and In Treatment.

    The Slap was awesome and one of the few times when I thought a series/movie was actually better than the source material (the novel is brilliant though).

    J Bar – fingers crossed they do a good job with it! The U.S. did good versions of Shameless, The Office, Wilfred, etc so let’s hope The Slap falls into that category rather the Kath and Kim one!
