Q & A: Oct 6

Q & A focusses on mental health with Patrick McGorry, Josh Thomas & Bob Katter.

2014-07-03_1630Monday’s Q & A joins with specialist programming for ABC’s Mental As… week.

On the panel:

  • Psychiatrist, mental health reform advocate and 2010 Australian of the Year Patrick McGorry;
  • Comedian Josh Thomas, who has become an advocate for mental health in the US and Australia;
  • Mental health practitioner Louise Byrne, from the Central Queensland University in Rockhampton who draws on her own past experience of mental health challenges;
  • Managing director of the Australian Centre for Rural and Remote Mental Health, Jennifer Bowers; and
  • Bob Katter, the Independent Queensland MP who strives to raise awareness about the plight of farmers in regional Australia.

Executive Producer Peter McEvoy said: “Q&A is thrilled to be taking part in the ABC’s Mental As… initiative, in order to turn the spotlight onto mental health issues in rural and regional Australia. People in regional Australia don’t have the same access to resources that those living in capital cities enjoy, yet they’re facing all the same pressures compounded by isolation and financial uncertainty.

“We hope to bring their stories onto the national agenda.”

9:35pm Monday simulcast on ABC and ABC News 24.
