Reigan out as X Factor settles on final 3

Did X Factor judges save the best act or vote out the singer they view as the biggest threat?

2014-10-13_2156Brothers 3, Dean Ray and Marlisa Punzalan will compete in The X Factor grand final, following the elimination of Reigan Derry last night.

Derry, whose performances have wowed the judges every week, was saved by votes from her mentor RedFoo and Natalie Bassingthwaighte but Dannii Minogue and Ronan Keating voted for Marlisa.

But did judges save the best act or vote out the singer they view as the biggest threat?

The show’s format decrees they are protective of their own, which differs from other talent shows such as Australian Idol.

Last night’s show also included Ronan Keating’s Boyzone (now a misnomer for the ageing boyband?) performing Motown songs, but with none of the pizzazz of our own Human Nature. Local lads 5 Seconds of Summer also performed Amnesia and Good Girls, while The Script performed Superheroes.

The Grand Final is set to include live performances by Olly Murs, Jessica Mauboy and Guy Sebastian, plus Taylor Swift on Monday.

8pm Sunday on Seven.

  1. How many people who are upset about the outcome last night actually voted? I’ve voted every week and my preferred act is in the Top (Brothers) 3. Dannii didn’t choose them initially, yet the public made it crystal clear that they wanted them on the show by voting them in as the wildcard entry. When they revealed the voting order, B3 were 1st, followed by Dean and Reigan (I thought this would be final 3). B3 have huge support and they are the only act not to appear in the Bottom 2 at all. They also perform extremely well on iTunes. As for Reigan, she’s been on Idol, in a group and now X Factor. Her multiple appearances in the Bottom 2 suggest that the public hasn’t warmed to her as much as people like to think they have, and maybe that’s what prompted Dannii to vote for Marlisa over Reigan, since it was her very 1st time in the Bottom 2. After all, this is the X Factor, not The Voice.

  2. I think they voted out the biggest threat not necessarily the worst singer. I honestly think Marlisa has a great voice, but is too young to be on the show, she is only 15! 16-17 and above please for next year, I understand the want to create younger singers but it is becoming very annoying. Just my point of view.

But a part of me didn’t want Reigan to win because of her past experience and the fact she even appeared on the X Factor as a signed-to-a-record-deal artist with Scarlett Belle. I wasn’t watching X Factor then (in fact this year is the first year I have watched it on a weekly basis) but it seems a tad unfair. But we had Samantha Jade win in 2012 taking a similar route.
