will.i.am out of The Voice?

Speculation that will.i.am will not be returning to The Voice in 2015.

2014-10-26_0021will.i.am looks unlikely to return to The Voice next year, according to a media report today.

Nine would not confirm its mentors for 2015 yet, but will.i.am may have ‘priced himself out of contention’, according to the Sunday Telegraph.

A Nine spokesperson said, “No, we haven’t locked in the coaching panel as yet … will announce the mix when we have it all sign sealed and confirmed.”

Earlier this year Kylie Minogue told TV Tonight she as unsure about a return, amid rumours she had signed for 2 years.

“I honestly don’t know,” she said ahead of this year’s grand final.

“We’re so amongst this that I have to get over the finish line, but it’s been a lot of fun. A great team.”

Minogue has already departed The Voice UK after just one season.

In June former Director of Development and Digital at Nine Adrian Swift told Mumbrella, “We will look at the judging panels, the kind of songs we choose, the kind of artists that appear on the show.”

Meanwhile The Voice: Kids may be out for 2015 too. Nine is yet to announce auditions for a second season.

  1. Has Australia got enough ‘talent’ to sustain these types of shows? The Voice and X Factor both dropped off in the ratings this year and the ‘talent’ on each show was sub par compared to other series.

Or is Australia tiring of the same types of shows being pumped out year after year? Hopefully so. Networks might be forced to be a bit more creative.

  2. It actually kind of suits the show’s style to have a changing lineup of judges, will help keep it fresher. Although they will still need to make a lot of changes next year to avoid it going downhill further. Especially bringing in audience voting a lot sooner than they did this year. They should ditch the battle rounds completely – after the blind auditions, go straight to viewer voting. Preferably online only – results within the same show as the performances.

  3. I think The Voice Kids is more appealing. They should cancel The Voice altogether and just have the Kids version with the same coaches (Mel, Delta and the Madden Bros).

  4. The Voice Kids was infinitely less painful to watch than the Voice. I think because it focused more on the kids and their singing than on egos and idiosynacries of the judges. There was also significantly less filler and fluffing about.

I also think that apart from Joel, none of the mentors on The Voice are likeable.

  5. Delta Goodrem is the worst judge on any singing competition since Kate Ceberano on Ten’s awful X Factor 2005 – Kyle Minogue was miles better. Keep Delta away

She does not come off as genuine or earnest at all

  6. For the dropkicks who think The Voice Kids was disastrous, go and ask Woolworths what they thought of it.

Products associated with the brand sold out, over 90% of the grocery buyers demographics watched it.

Maharaj said The Voice Kids is hitting Pharmacare’s target audience: “We are buying against grocery buyers with kids. Last night’s audience 93% of all grocery buyers with kids who were watching free-to-air TV were watching The Voice Kids.”

  7. The Voice Kids not returning? I would have thought that would be blindingly obvious, and there was no question of it ever returning. It would have to be the most disastrous and embarrassing show since Celebrity Splash.

  8. The show is pretty much dead isn’t it? The winner has done nothing, sold 7,000 albums or something woeful. The Voice is all about the mentors, and this year it was hard to watch, tuned out half way through the Battle Rounds.

They need to get some great local talent as mentors (Kylie isn’t local talent, she’s been a euro artist for 2 decades). Dutch the overseas mentors and bring in the Aussies.
