Andre Rieu waltzes onto new Foxtel Arts HD channel

Opera, ballet, theatre, orchestras and Andre will be seen on the new Arts channel to replace STUDIO.

rieuAndre Rieu is headed back to Subscription TV as part of the new FOXTEL ARTS HD channel in 2015, which will replace outgoing Arts channel STUDIO.

The new channel will be produced under Foxtel’s owned and operated channels, showcasing opera and ballet productions, theatre, dance, cabaret, classical and contemporary performance as well as specials and series from cinema, literature, music, visual art, artists and the history of ideas and techniques from which art is created.

STUDIO replaced the Ovation Channel when Foxtel did not renew its contract in 2009.

The channel will extend Foxtel’s commitment to fostering and supporting Australia’s creative industries and arts organisations. As a vital part of Australia’s cultural life the channel will feature locally produced magazine shows and specials, festival news and information, in depth interviews and review. It will participate in and support the broad spectrum of arts communities working in Australia today and invite Foxtel subscribers to enjoy an ongoing awareness of Australia’s rich creativity and the inspiring people behind its dynamic artistic expression.

FOXTEL ARTS HD will draw from a rich and varied television palette – from the timeless to the contemporary – to create extraordinary experiences for an intelligent and passionate audience.

The channel will feature the world’s most renown orchestras, ensembles and companies and highlight the finest performing artists from the greatest opera houses, concert halls and festival stages including Daniel Barenboim, Renee Fleming, Herbert Von Karajan and Anne Sophie Mutter as well as the popular favourite, Andre Rieu.

In its documentary offering the channel will discuss, dissect and deliberate a wide variety of artistic endeavours from the plastic arts, literature, all forms of theatre as well as the luminaries, traditions and cultural developments that have shaped art and artists and which continue to exert an influence today.

Foxtel’s carriage arrangement with SBS for its channel, Studio, will conclude in March of 2015. FOXTEL ARTS HD will replace it in the channel line-up.

Foxtel would like to thank the team at SBS and Studio for bringing the channel to subscribers since 2010.

  1. And the joke was that Ovation showed nothing but Andre Rieu concerts every day, and there was a sigh of relief from arts lovers when Studio launched without the reliance of him

Seems like Foxtel is going backwards with an arts channel
