David Gyngell signals longer role with Nine

CEO David Gyngell plans to stay beyond the end of his Nine contract in two years’ time.

dvgy.jpgNine CEO David Gyngell is planning on remaining at the head of the company for some time.

Speculation about his position was raised last week after he did not present at Nine Entertainment Co.’s AGM last week, and following a headline-grabbing brawl in Bondi earlier this year.

But The Australian reports plans to stay beyond the end of his contract in two years’ time.

“I have no intentions of leaving the company before my contract is up. Hopefully I would like to go beyond that, but that’s a board and shareholders decision,” he told the newspaper.

Gyngell, who pocketed $19.5 million this year as the highest-paid media executive in the country, signed a new three-year contract when NEC listed on the ASX last December.

Chairman David Haslingden told The Australian, “There have been absolutely no discussions or indications about David leaving the company at any time.”

  1. You have to take into account his extra fees for duties above and beyond such as wrestling and boxing. Not many CEO’S would go the extra mile and do that.

  2. Taxpayers are indirectly funding this blokes salary package through the licence fee rebate. I think he should share a little more of the burden

  3. Don’t think he deserves that much money especially with so much poverty around, pay him less and give the difference to a worthy cause as I am not sure if he turned nine around or just organized the hedge funds to invest in the channel which to me is not the same, he didn’t turn it around the investors did.

  4. The total probably also includes the value of his shares as this did couriermail.com.au/business/b-nine-entertainment-float-will-make-ceo-david-gyngell-a-rich-man/story-fnihsps3-1226753057580?nk=bbc54870386661d3b8839176e1ede541

His wage was $2 million according to that article from a year ago.
