Heart-warming surprise for The Living Room audience

The Living Room ends the year with a special surprise that left everyone fighting back the tears.

2014-11-29_1715If you missed Friday’s Christmas episode of The Living Room on TEN there’s a moment worth watching on catch-up.

Promised as ‘an Australian television first’ it left the audience speechless.

Prior to the taping of the episode, every audience member was asked by Santa Claus what they really wanted for Christmas. Little did they realise, he had an earpiece to Producers who were quietly noting down every gift idea.

While the episode was being filmed, staff at online department store oo.com.au were hurriedly packaging their requests together -to be delivered to them by the end of the episode. There were toys, tablets, food processors, new TVs and flights all arriving before their very eyes.

One request was so heartfelt that many were fighting back the tears.

While the idea isn’t entirely original (Westjet Airlines did this a year ago), it was definitely a crowd-pleaser.

You can see The Living Room‘s surprise at around 65 minutes on this video (drag the cursor then wait for ads to play).

  1. I finally got to watch it …just now…after 4 attempts….Love that TEN knew where I had left off each time….
And Good One David Knox…that you picked up on the original concept…
    Merry Christmas everyone!!

  2. A brilliant idea and a great way to cap off a great show. It has stabilised in the ratings with a regular audience of 500-600K, but it’s a shame that we will be in repeats now.

  3. Same problems with video.
Forwarded to 65m after a few adds and got 30 seconds of video then more adds and no more video.

Shame .. sounds like it was a wonderful end of year surprise.
