  1. The EPG being correct isn’t the issue.

By deliberately running shows late the networks deprive viewers of the ability to choose to watch shows on different networks. Either you miss large parts of a show or have to sit around for 20 minutes waiting for a show to start. So viewers timeshift, watch catch-ups or just give up on watching shows. Networks can’t get any ratings for anything that starts after 9pm anymore.

Ten, the ABC and SBS can’t compete and have all lost more than 10% of their audience.

And it can backfire on Seven and Nine. When TBA flopped and The Blacklist had a slow start to S2, 40% of its audience just vanished. Seven are promoting like mad to try and win them back but they may have permanently lost are large chunk viewers for their only high rating US show.

The EPG is not that accurate anyway. Nine in particular to large last minute updates, or…

  2. Have to keep putting info out there….with others taking note..sooner or later the offenders will have to also….
Better to say something than nothing at all….silence never effected change..

    1. I’ve always viewed the Late List as an experiment, in response to so many people complaining about late start times. I think what it has done over time is give us a clearer picture of where each network sits on the problem, because we can now identify trends. For instance TEN never attracts the same lateness as Nine and Seven, while Foxtel, ABC and SBS have outstanding records. Other media have also reported from the list.
