Renewed: Homeland

In the US Homeland's reinvention has been strong enough to win a fifth season.

2014-10-07_2323It may not be getting great Overnight figures in Australia, but Showtime has renewed Homeland for a fifth season.

In the US the show is averaging six million weekly viewers across platforms, growing steadily in each of its last three weeks with a positive reception for the way it has rebooted itself after the exit of Damian Lewis.

It has been renewed for 12 more episodes along with 10 for a second season of The Affair.

Showtime’s David Nevins said, “In its fourth season, Homeland has brilliantly reinvented itself. It continues to capture the attention of a devoted fan base, and has provided an enviable platform for the successful launch of The Affair.

“With thought-provoking, relevant and addictive storylines, both series have been embraced, dissected and much debated week after week. We’re excited to see more from these complex shows in 2015.”

Homeland is still pulling some of the better Timeshifted numbers for TEN, recently up by another 142,000.

  1. I have to disagree with the apparent consensus here-focusing only on Carrie exposes just how absurd it is that she’s in such a senior position of responsibility-also many other points are starting to be obviously wrong-Saul travelling around with no escort whatsoever, hubby breaking into Carrie’s flat with a key and no alarm or video surveillance present etc.
Should have ended at the last series, but Yanks almost never know when to end things (until they get unceremoniously dumped).

  2. Yes The Affair sounds interesting. Will most likely end up on cable. Though SBS could pick it up like they did with Masters of Sex (if they have any money left).

A brief hallucination would have worked, the extended hallucination was annoying because you knew it wasn’t Brody and they set it up to make you think first it was Quinn then dragged, it till that didn’t make sense and it had to be the ISI.

  3. I am recording ‘Homeland’ to binge watch some time soon. So I guess this is good news.

Just as importantly, has there been any word on an airdate (& channel) for ‘The Affair’ here? It’s getting very good reviews & the premise looks interesting.

  4. At the time of writing I haven’t seen the most recent episode due to the later time slot but the current season is slow cooking nicely setting up for a tasty finish.
