Today show farewells Ben Fordham

On Friday Ben Fordham will depart the Today show after four years.

2014-11-20_1711On Friday Ben Fordham will depart the Today show after four years.

Fordham, who will remain with Nine across a variety of programs, said, “I have loved waking up with Today but cannot wait to be waking up with a screaming baby. The best part of the show has been meeting so many Today viewers over the past four years around Australia. I may be back from time to time filling in, so I’m not really saying goodbye.”

Replacing Fordham is Nine Network sports reporter Tim Gilbert, who began with Nine nearly 20 years ago. He has since covered cricket in India, US golf tournaments, NRL, cricket, Tour Down Under cycling, Ironman events, Olympic and Commonwealth Games.

He will continue in his role with the Sunday Wide World of Sports.

Executive Producer, Mark Calvert, said: “We’ll miss Ben Fordham enormously but I can’t think of a better person to fill his shoes than Tim. He’s already part of the Today Show family and our viewers know him well.”

“Is there anything better than getting up every morning talking sport with a great bunch of people? I don’t think so. I am really looking forward to the year ahead,” Gilbert said.

“The Today show team is like a big family, and as one of six kids and having three of my own with Josie, it’s a great fit.”

5:30am weekdays on Nine.

  1. @Rutzie – I agree. I hope he stays away from NRL Commentating.

But he apparently will be working 6-days-a-week on Nine. Says he’ll be on Wide World of Sports. I hope he leaves The Sunday NRL Footy Show. He doesn’t suit that show.

On another note – it’s sad to see Ben Fordham leave.
