AMC apologises for Walking Dead spoiler

US cable network posts on Facebook after an episode airs on the East Coast -but before the West Coast.

2014-12-04_0119US cable network AMC has apologised to fans of The Walking Dead after they lashed out over a Facebook post with major details of a storyline before it had aired on the West Coast.

AMC posted on social media after mid-season finale “Coda” had aired on the East Coast.

“We heard your feedback to last night’s post, and we’re sorry,” a statement on the show’s official page said.

“With zero negative intent, we jumped the gun and put up a spoiler. Please know we’re going to work to ensure that, in the future, possible spoilers by official AMC social feeds are killed before they can infect, certainly before the West Coast (U.S.) broadcast of The Walking Dead.

“As always, thank you for watching, and keep the comments coming. We appreciate all of your support. #RIPSpoiler.”

The FX episode topped STV ratings in Australia on Monday.

  1. We are trying to keep away from Grimm spoilers as no one is showing the new series which started in October and noone is telling us why its not on here or when it will be

  2. @Craig it was actually AMC’s fault that it happened.
I use Facebook on a regular basis, with my fav shows always appearing in the newsfeed with room for spoilers to show.

With US shows, they usually post the spoiler result after it’s been shown on the West Coast.. roughly 3 hours after it’s shown on the East Coast due to time differences. That way, the US show has been completely broadcasted across the US. Just like how QLDers suffer from Daylight Savings in NSW and the time difference in Perth.

What AMC did was post an image within 1 – 2 hours of the show going to air with a major reveal of a popular character. They usually wait until West Coast have shown it but it was on display, which they deleted later. I annoyingly saw it too, but it’s the internet, after all.

  3. This is how viewers in Australia feel for every single show that is held back!

It’s getting harder and harder to not be spoiled anymore for TV shows after they air due to social media. I know, if you don’t want to be spoiled, don’t read it/avoid etc – which is what I do – but I no many others don’t.

I really wish Foxtel upped their Express from US again. Holding stuff back so that they can show it without breaks is a good idea, but it misses the mark when this happens. (The Flash/Chicago Fire/The 100 etc) Fox8 seems to be the main one that is holding stuff back at the moment.

I think they’re doing a good job with some shows – but I think they’ll need to do it for lots of other shows again.
