Denyer drops defamation plans

Family Feud host decides to move on from legal action over magazine claims.

2014-06-25_1725Grant Denyer has dropped plans for a defamation suit against Woman’s Day, which alleged he was recovering from a “$200,000-a-year addiction to methamphetamine” in a Thai rehab centre.

Management vehemently denied the claims at the time, citing exhaustion and anxiety issues.

This week Denyer told News Corp. “I admit that when I first read the story I was angry. When someone jabs you hard you want to hit them back.

“I was really fired up and of course I wanted to defend myself.

“But after (he calmed down) I just wanted to move on.

“I didn’t want to spend any more time on it.”

Denyer has ended 2014 much better than when it began, with Family Feud performing for TEN in its 6pm timeslot, albeit with ratings that merge its simulcast across three channels.

In recent weeks TEN’s broadcast of the Big Bash League has meant Family Feud replays have seen some break out of separate numbers in some cities, due to daylight saving anomalies.

Last week in Brisbane Family Feud pulled up to 19,000 viewers on ELEVEN and 10,000 on ONE. With summer viewing having been hovering at around 100,000 for the show in Brissy, the multichannels could -speculatively- be contributing as much as a third of total viewers there. In Perth the show is also not currently screening on ONE.

Denyer is currently in talks to do other undisclosed TV projects.

  1. He might probably just want to simply move on and just continue on where his at atm which is fair enough, as things seem to be going very well for him at Ten & I do have to say I wasn’t a fan of him on 7 & he probably wasn’t happy there towards the end, but I think he’s doing a great job on FF he does make the show entertaining.

  2. I like Grant Denyer. I used to find him annoying when he was overexposed on Seven but he does a good job on FF. I hope he moves on from what that magazine did to him.

  3. Denyer has made lots of claims like medical tests showed “that is organs were working at 7%” and “being told by doctors that he was ‘going to die’ if he didn’t walk away” [from being a weatherman].

Yet instead of going to hospital he admits he went to a Luxury Thai Rehab Resort that specialises in treating wealthy Australian addicts.

Now he claims that he is dropping a defamation suit, that would have made him millions, because now he “just wants to move on”.

  4. I can understand Grant wanting to put it behind him – lawsuits are exhausting but I think it’s a shame. These crap magazines have to face the consequences of their actions. The scumbag who sold the story should be sued, he signed a confidentiality agreement at the clinic & behaved in an ethically reprehensible manner. I have never heard of any publication running a story about the details of a celebrity’s experience at a clinic without their permission, it’s disgraceful & could stop others from seeking help.

  5. Pls say it isn’t so. If Ten are going to splash him across the network then I am out.
He is by far the most overrated, annoying (in a tie with David Koch) on TV & to overexpose him again will just lead to rapid viewer fatigue.
Remember FF is his first hit for a while (apart from Sunrise).

  6. If a magazine accused me of having an addiction to methamphetamine I would want to clear my name no matter what. Certainly not just move on. Interesting figures there for ONE and Eleven. I reckon you’re pretty close when you say the multichannels are contributing a third of the total viewers.
