2014-12-08_2105The final episode of Julia Zemiro’s Home Delivery features Stephen Curry, brother to Andrew and Bernard Curry.

Since we first fell for him in The Castle, Stephen Curry has remained one of our favourite comedic actors. A Melbourne boy born and bred, Julia whisks him up from a St Kilda kerb and they head off to leafy Deepdene. On the way, he says his friends tell him his childhood sounds like it’s straight out of the 1950s and he can’t disagree with them.

The youngest of five, Stephen grew up in a stunning Federation house. The episode was shot 20 years to the day since his parents moved out. Stephen revels in seeing the old place again and regales Julia with tales of brotherly shenanigans, backyard cricket and nurturing parents. They then make the short walk through an old railway cutting to Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic school and church. Stephen tells Julia about the day he was sacked as an altar boy and how Catholicism fits into his life now.

They drive to Marcellin College in Bulleen where there are descriptions of schoolboy pranks and how his classmates were amongst some of the best ‘audiences’ he’s ever played to. Julia and Stephen finish the day looking at a statue of Father John Carnie – a dear friend, guide and mentor to Stephen and many Marcellin boys.

9pm Wednesday, 10 December ABC.
