Rob Palmer exits Better Homes & Gardens, new presenters announced.

Updated: Chippie sacked as BH&G makes room for Home and Away's Demi Harman and House Rules winner Adam Dovile.

2014-12-30_0020After 13 years on Better Homes and Gardens, DIY and Renovating expert, Rob Palmer, is departing.

The announcement was made by Seven as it confirms Home and Away actress Demi Harman and House Rules champ Adam Dovile will join the team in 2015.

Palmer joined in 2001 following a stint on TEN’s short-lived lifestyle series Live This! The carpenter also appeared on House Calls To The Rescue with Johanna Griggs.

In 2010 he even took out the Dancing with the Stars series crown.

Demi Harman, who designs for her handbag label DemRock, will present DIY projects ranging from home decorating to designing arts and craft wares.

“I grew up watching Better Homes and Gardens and I was so excited to have Joh film a segment at my home a few years ago. To now say I’m a presenter on the show is beyond joy!” she said.

Meanwhile House Rules winner and carpenter Adam Dovile becomes the new resident builder. He also featured in Seven’s Upfronts presentation to media and clients some months ago.

“This is truly a dream come true. I can’t wait to work with Joh again and the rest of the team. The show has such a loyal following and I’m very proud to be a part of it,” he said.

Tara Dennis will continue with room makeovers on BH&G.

Updated via Woman’s Day:

The popular chippie has been axed to make way for reality TV contestant Adam Dovile of My House Rules. But the most shocking part about his sudden departure is that he still hasn’t been contacted directly by channel 7.

“No one from channel 7 has spoken to me about it,” reveals Rob.

He heard the news while he was away with his family on a trip to Wales in November when he received the message that his contract wouldn’t be renewed.

“We were over seeing my mother-in-law, because she’d been crook and to introduce her to her new grand-daughter, when there was a two minute phone call to my agent telling her of the decision. It came out of the blue – I still had a shoot schedule booked in for when I returned to Sydney, and with the rest of the cast I’d already shot the 2015 Better Homes promo.”

“But I’m not having a whinge, mate!” he laughs, with the infectious good humour and tradie charm.

  1. I’m still angry with Better Homes & Gardens for getting rid of Rob. The show is a lot duller without him. I have tried to warm to Adam but I just don’t find him interesting and he is rather dull. Shame they messed with the format as I also find Demi a bit dull as well. I only watch the show maybe once every two months now and that is mainly due to Tara still being on. I also enjoy Graham and Jason – and those three plus Rob made the show worth watching but Rob was the main reason I watched (followed closely by Tara).
    Again, Shame : (

  2. Goodness…what were they thinking? Rob palmer made better homes and gardens. Replacement is droll and not a patch on rob….pun intended…Fast forward button used to bypass adds and boring bits thanks you. Other channel button ..blinded by the new light center stage …sighs

  3. BH&G has grown increasingly irritating with its relentless ‘good humour’ style.. everyone laughing all the time and trying to be funny instead of getting on with the job. It’s becoming a show that no longer believes in its format and feels it has to wrap everything up in good vibrations. The only guy left who focuses on the material rather than his delivery is our gardening pal Graham. He should watch his back of he’ll find he’s replaced by Kevin Bloody Wilson.

Whilst Rob Palmer was often over the top with his own effervescent style, he always struck me as sincere, and I think his loss will be felt.

His replacement, the new guy Adam is – unfortunately – right in the approved laughing channel to go with BH&G’s annoying style, to the extent that I have to fast forward through his bits in case I get so irritated I might throw Granma at the telly.

    1. I am now watching the living room on channel 10 on Friday nights now that Rob has gone but it was the way he was unceremoniously sacked channel 7 you officially suck I hope Rob pops up on the living room however I do love Baz on that show. What’s up with that Adam bloke no personality and that little girl should just stay on Home and Away I love Johanna and most of the rest of the crew not sure this is the way for BHG oh well I guess the living room will be out rating you in 2015. Rob had personality plus I already miss him. Why do you think he won dancing with the stars it was because of his popularity not his dancing. Big mistake!!

  4. The dropping of Rob from your show has left a sour taste in my mouth over the show. Time to move to another channel in place of my usual BHG. Im using my choice to leave you as a protest. You may not care but I’m sure there are thousands more who haven’t bothered to tell you and are looking for another show in this time slot given the ruthless cut.
    Good luck Rob….

  5. Just watched BHG – what a dreadful decision to replace Rob with that Adam! That horrendous ‘laugh’ that just didn’t stop – so annoying and the pathetic attempt at jokes.
Sorry, won’t be watching this show again any time soon.

  6. Wake-up BH&G, new is good, but not at the expense of a great guy like Rob Palmer. Maybe a time to change Channels!
Well you have shown no loyalty to us the viewer or Rob. Shame on you!!

  7. What an awful way to treat an employee! I can’t understand why they would replace Rob with someone that one a competition ?! I know the new fellow did a “guest” appearance on BHG last year and I watched his segament – I thought he was dull as dishwater at least Rob made repairing and painting windows sashes entertaining! Bad form Channel 7. I don’t even know who the new chick is but if she is from Home & Away I pity Tara!

  8. If you want to support Rob, sign this petition and spread it around!

    change.org/p/seven-network-pty-limited-channel-7-must-reinstate-rob-palmer-on-better-homes-and-gardens-or-face-a-boycott

  9. My guess BHG have done some research on Rob with audience testing and he didn’t come up with positive numbers. Onwards and upwards Rob. Good Luck

  10. Yes, agree with most folk that it is the most incredibly bad manners to let someone go like this. However, doesn’t it just show that even after, in Robs case, 13 years of loyal service, a company could not care less and truly, loyalty means nothing.
It has changed my opinion of BHG, which we have always enjoyed, now I have doubts and will be looking out for possibly (?) Robs own programme!
    Good luck to him.

  11. Why mess with a good thing???? Replacing Rob Palmer with an amateur who happened to win a building competition and who also happens to talk quite irritatingly with all that big teeth. Silly move Channel 7!!!!

  12. Agree that the show needs a re-vamp after all these years, but think the way channel 7 went about advising Rob that his contract was not being renewed was very underhanded. Think Adam seems a nice enough person but don’t know anything Tara so will have to wait and see how things pan out.

  13. I was sorry to hear that Rob Palmer is leaving Better Homes and Gardens, and it sucks the way it happened too. I say good luck to him and I hope he gets employed on another show soon.

  14. While BHG is in need of a refresh this is very poor form from Channel 7/or the production company execs…. How pathetic of them.

Good luck to Rob though – I suggest The Living Room picks him up for some DIY segments to strengthen their show and watch their numbers climb at BHGs expense.

  15. Poor for Channel 7!
In an interview in “Womans Day”, Rob said he’d been told via text & hadn’t been contacted directly by Channel 7!

    That’s bad manners & disrespectful!

He was the only reason I watched!

I hope he gets his own show! Good Luck to him!

  16. I think a lot of people tune it to see Rob’s enthusiastic attitude as well as a few other presenters but I love your last line about Tara Dennis who just makes pieces of crap art that no one would ever do.

Living Room may out rate them this year now.

  17. Disappointing news. Why couldn’t they have Rob and Adam do stories together. Ridiculous decision to just let Rob go after all he’s done for the show. Good luck Rob.
