Seven health reporter wins for cancer report

Karen O’Sullivan is awarded the Luminous Award for the 2nd time, for journalism in the field of oncology.

2014-12-07_1747Seven News health reporter Karen O’Sullivan has been awarded by the the Clinical Oncology Society of Australia for her outstanding journalism in the field of oncology.

She won the 2014 Luminous Award for her story “Cold comfort”, which told of the research into the common cold virus and its ability to kill off cancer cells in melanoma tumours.

The award recognises journalists who provide responsible, accurate and timely information on advances in cancer prevention, research, treatment and patient support.

It’s the second time in four years, she has won.

Seven News Melbourne Director Simon Pristel said, “This result highlights what Seven News is all about, the best stories told by the best people in the business. We’re very proud of Karen’s achievement.”

O’Sullivan added: “I am honoured to win the award for the third time in its ten year history, and will continue to report cancer stories, giving people touched by the disease accurate and important knowledge of medical advancements and hope.”
