The Godfather trilogy on ABC2

Movie buffs are in for a treat over Christmas as ABC2 plays all three Godfather movies.

It begins on Christmas Eve with the original film, starring Marlon Brando, from 9pm.

The Godfather II airs 9pm Christmas Day and Godfather III follows at 9:10pm on Boxing Day.

Viewed as one of the best American films ever made, this first instalment follows the story of Don Corleone, the aging patriarch of an organised crime dynasty, and his family.

After a two failed assassination attempts, Corleone, ‘The Godfather’, transfers control of his clandestine empire to his reluctant son, Michael (Al Pacino).

The Godfather was nominated for 11 Academy Awards and won Best Picture, Best Actor (Marlon Brando) and Best Adapted Screenplay.
