  1. I can’t believe he was only 59 and was in a black and white series in the mid 1960s. I remember when I was a kid my mother heard somewhere that the show was harmful to children and I remember my sister and I rushing to the TV to change the channel whenever it came on so we wouldn’t get damaged. In 1988 after a new Australian series failed at 5:30, Nine put repeats of the show into the slot as a stop gap until they could line up a new Australian show. The Addams Family in that slot became a huge ratings success, taking Nine completely aback. I remember a letter in the Daily Telegraph saying that The Addams Family was a hit “because it celebrated family values”. I remember reading that letter and thinking how times had changed. In the 1960s The Addams Family was “harmful to children”. In the 1980s it celebrated family life.
