Wasley, 86, and his daughter Lindy, 44, both perished in the blaze.

An ABC statement said, “Mr Wasley joined the ABC in 1966, working in ABC News and Current Affairs on programs including This Day Tonight and Four Corners. Among his best known work was the powerful footage he shot in Vietnam in 1975 of despairing Vietnamese soldiers and civilians, which he filmed from a US helicopter as it took off from Xuan Loc. He retired in 1987.

“The ABC extends its deepest condolences to Mr Wasley’s family.”

The fire is not being treated as suspicious.

  1. Saw this on the news last night, TEN did a great job detailing his life but over on ch7 they said there was a fire and 2 deaths but no mention of who died or anything saying he was related to a fire fighter who working in the area.

Its a sad loss and horrific way to go.
