Airdate: Playhouse Presents

David Tennant, Emma Thompson, Stephen Fry, Brenda Blethyn -this drama showcase boasts fine UK talent.

2015-01-04_1148Tonight BBC begins a new showcase of drama, Playhouse Presents, featuring a top-notch cast, writers and directors.

These half hour plays includes David Tennant, Emma Thompson, Stephen Fry, Brenda Blethyn, Richard E. Grant and more.

This 9 part series begins tonight with David Tennant in “Minor Character” which I found a bit static, but I enjoyed Emma Thompson and Eddie Marsan in “Walking the Dogs,” a fictionalised conversation between the Queen and the intruder who broke into her bedroom at Buckingham Palace.

Starring: Emma Thompson (Sense and Sensibility), David Tennant (The Politician’s Husband), Olivia Williams (The Ghost Writer), Alison Steadman (Gavin and Stacey), Brenda Blethyn (Pride and Prejudice), Stellan Skarsgård (Thor), Stephen Fry (The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug), Richard E Grant (Dom Hemingway), Tom Jones (This is Tom Jones), Sheila Hancock (The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas), Hayley Atwell (The Duchess), Zoë Wanamaker (Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone), Eddie Marsan (The World’s End), Martin Shaw (The Professionals), Geraldine James (The Last Enemy), Trevor Eve (Waking the Dead), Russell Tovey (Being Human) and Paul O’Grady (The Paul O’Grady Show)

8.30pm tonight on BBC First.

  1. Yes, very odd re Martin Shaw!
Loved him as Judge John Deed (2001-2007) and as Inspector George Gently (2007-2015).
His bio gives: “One of England’s most popular actors for more than two decades, Martin is noted for his versatility. He has starred in over 100 TV roles…..)

  2. That’s certainly a stellar cast. Interesting to note which past works are listed. No mention of Doctor Who for Tennant and Shaw was last in The Professionals over 30 years ago.
