Amazing Race adds “blind date” teams

2015-01-21_1155A new season of The Amazing Race premieres in the US in late February and this season revolves around entirely “dating duos” -but 5 of the 11 teams have never met before.

In what is being called “the most extreme blind date ever” the cast includes New Kids on the Block member Jonathan Knight and his partner Harley Rodriguez and Olympic medalists Aly Dudek and Steven Langton.

There are also two male same-sex teams, one in an established relationship, the others on a round-the-world blind date.

“Usually we have people who know each other really well. In this particular case we have five blind dates and six regular dates,” said Bertram van Munster, co-creator and executive producer. “Going on a blind date to a restaurant is one thing, but going on a blind date around the world is like rolling the dice in a big way.”

Teams will have the chance to win a new “date night” reward, such as a night at a hot springs resort in Japan, or star-gazing at the Bavarian Public Observatory in Germany.

  2. The amazing race moved to Friday’s for its last season and the ratings took a tumble. This sounds like a bit of a desperate attempt to get back on track. That said, I’ll love it, so ill probably still watch .

  3. It’s sounding a little Scrappy Doo and Cousin Oliver. I’d just prefer if they cast more interesting teams as so many of them seem like carbon copies of types they’ve had many times over.

  4. It is gimicky for a show which doesn’t do gimicks very offten (the last big gimick I remember was the $2 million dollar prize (Season 21). It’s nice to mix it up I guess and it will be interesting to see what happens but I don’t want this sort of twists to occur every season of it does do well (maybe revisit it every 3-5 years\6-10 seasons, if at all)

  5. Hmm, not sure if this will be good TV or car crash viewing?!
    I prefer the travel to the exotic locations and some of the personalities….
    Also depends where the 7 Netowrk bury is in their schedule……

  6. Although I like the idea of team members having not met before and needing to work together and win the race, I’m not keen on the whole gimmicky “The Amazing Dating Game Race” concept. It cheapens what has been a quality brand for 25 seasons, a little like Aus V NZ.
