Join ABC’s Stephanie Brantz to celebrate what’s great about being Australian and meet the remarkable group of 2015 nominees in the award categories of Australian of the Year, Senior Australian of the Year, Young Australian of the Year and Australia’s Local Hero.

Award winners will be announced by Prime Minister Tony Abbott.

Finalists for the Australian of the Year Award this year include: Rosalie Kunoth-Monks OAM (NT); Rosie Batty (VIC); Debora-Lee Furness (NSW); Dr Gill Hicks MBE (SA); Professor Lyn Beazley AO (WA); Hetty Johnston AM (QLD); Rodney Croome AM (TAS); and Glenn Keys (ACT).

National Flag Raising & Citizenship Ceremony

On Australia Day we celebrate in any number of ways, from community barbeques to fireworks to yabby racing. But it’s also a day where tens of thousands of people each year become Australian citizens.

We’ll go to Canberra for the Australia Day National Flag Raising and Citizenship Ceremony to welcome our newest Australian citizens. Hosted by ABC’s Stephanie Brantz, with commentary from Adam Spencer and the Hon Tim Fischer AO (former Deputy Prime Minister).

The National Flag Raising & Citizenship Ceremony is officiated and conducted by the Governor-General, His Excellency General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd) and Prime Minister Tony Abbott.
