Family Feud added to TEN’s Sundays

Update: TEN makes a strategic move by increasing its game show to 6 nights a week.

2015-01-21_0116Family Feud has been given another vote of confidence from TEN, set to air six nights a week from February 1st.

The show will air at 6pm Sunday – Friday, hosted by Grant Denyer.

Its a strategic move by the network given it has underperformed in the timeslot on arguably the most important night of the week. Offering an entertainment show will contrast with rival networks screening their 6pm news.

TEN Chief Programming Officer, Beverley McGarvey, said: “Australians have fallen
in love with Family Feud, making it the most-watched game show on commercial television.

“Now everyone can enjoy the fun and excitement of Family Feud six nights a week.

Family Feud Sunday is part of an exciting new Sunday night line-up for TEN, including the Australian debut of the highly anticipated new family entertainment series I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! on February 1,” she said.

Update: TEN confirms the show will also air on ELEVEN and ONE on Sundays.

  1. @KFed – I could relate this back to BFF in 2006 when contestants say some silly stuff. I think Family Feud is much better on Channel 10 than Bert Newton’s version in 2006.

  2. @Shoudy Chen The fact that they’ve made a show that has always (secretly) been about innuendo “family friendly” is the worst part about it. It used to be about grandma saying rude things, and it should be again!

  3. I agree with others here about adding something extra to the Sunday show. What I want to know is are they recording 6 eps a week now or bringing everything forward?

  4. @tayzz – he is doing a lot less on Ten then he did at 7. He is only doing 1 show and nothing else at the moment but he is currently discussing with Ten management, if he could do more. There is nothing confirmed of him doing Motorsport in 2015

  5. Why make Sunday different – that would mess up the flow with carry over champions and create a separate show that would have to find its own feet. My kids on many weekend ask about Family Feud being on the weekend!

I still maintain that if FF was on TEN only the ratings would be the same as the combined simulcast as people who want to watch Family Feud will do so by turning to TEN.

To say this isn’t the case assumes there are people out there who leave a channel on and watch whatever is on it…

The reason the networks lobbied for multichannels was that more pixels didn’t yield any more viewers, so they decided to offer more choice to keep viewers away from Foxtel.

Choice of course mostly means more repeats of Midsomer Murders and TTBT but there is also more sport and the odd thing like Supernatural in prime time instead of late at night (where it would be easier to DVR). So all they have really done is increase fragmentation and decrease their revenue.

If everything was simulcast across 3 channels at least it would all be available in HD for those who want it.

  7. So much for giving Grant Denyer less work so he’s less stressed. He seems to be working just as much as he did on 7, with the V8/general racing commentary and FF.

  8. @Jason – That could mean that it could boost the ratings higher. Having Family Feud on 3 channels would be a good benefit for Network Ten, however there are times that Family Feud will show it via Ten and 11 due to a sporting event.
@William – I agree so, as they have the V8 Supercars and the Australian F1 GP in March being held on a Sunday afternoon. This could mean that Ten will have to restructure the programming.
@SAgr8 – Yeah, right. I think that 10 will make an all-stars version, similar to the Bert’s Family Feud Mad Monday. That could be a lot more exciting! Instead of the $10 000 why not put increase the value to $25 000? I would think that we could have a Bonus Round on Sunday nights!

  9. I think the Sunday edition should be slightly different to the main show. Ie maybe have some of the best family’s from the weekday show play for a bigger prize ($50,000 final round as opposed to $10,000)

  10. Only one point, if it airs across multi-channels get Grant to stop promoting the upcoming show on Ten as it denigrates Neighbours and whats on One, by only promoting the show on Ten, or film 3 different endings. simplest dont promote the next show or promote all three shows.

  11. Family Feud may not air at 6pm every Sunday from Feb 1. As there are just some big sporting events that will get in the way. It also may be shown on 2 channels in some states.

  12. Good idea, but perhaps the Sunday version can be jazzed up a bit, give the families/viewers some incentive to watch, maybe Sunday can be a $25k jackpot instead of 10, or change the lighting to a different color on the set, i’ll definitely give it a watch on Sunday though 🙂

  13. “Less than 500,000 Australians spread across three channels have fallen in love with Family Feud…”
    There, I’ve fixed it.

Hyperbole aside, it’s prob a smart move. It’s gotta rate better than what they’ve prev had at 6pm.

  14. @ Shoudy Chen – “Let’s hope that it would simulcast this show via three channels”
Why not. Why stop with Family Feud? Why not run every program on TEN on One and 11 all the time? The whole purpose of multiple channels was to provide choice. Then, I guess TEN needs to save program costs somehow, so may be a good idea after all. As an advertiser I want to know how many are watching it on TEN, as that’s where my paid advert is – not on One or 11.

  15. I think that Channel 10 made the right decision to air it on Sundays. Let’s hope that it would simulcast this show via three channels. I am enjoying this version of family Feud compared to Bert’s Family Feud because Channel Ten is a family-friendly show.

  16. Because exhausting popular content always works, and in no way will everyone be sick of the show in a year and Ten be back to no shows anybody watches. Again.
