After years of yes / no / on / off, Jennifer Saunders has finally finished writing a movie of Absolutely Fabulous, 20 years after starting it.
“I’ve finished the first draft. I’m feeling euphoric. My proper New Year’s resolution is to do the film, otherwise it’ll be a pointless year of procrastination,” she told the Mirror.
The film is titled Edina and Patsy, after Saunders and Joanna Lumley’s characters, while daughter Saffy and mum (Julia Sawahla / June Whitfield) have both been written into the film.
In 2011 Saunders confirmed a film would shoot on the French Riviera but then in 2013 she said “It’ll never happen,” followed quickly by pet projects, “One of them might be the Ab Fab film.”
Keep ’em guessing eh, Eddie?
Saunders last revived the show in 2012 to mark its 20th Anniversary.

Don’t judge until you’ve seen it, for all we know it could be good.
I hope the film script is better than those 2 2012 special episodes, because they weren’t much chop.
Jeez that’s a bit harsh. if there’s someone I’d trust to write a good movie adaptation of a comedy show, it’s Jennifer Saunders. Hope it comes to fruition.
Or like Hey Hey It’s Saturday on Wednesday night.
Oh dear, sounds like another performer who has hit hard times trying to relive past glories. Crocodile Dundee In Los Angeles anybody?
