TEN wins demos, snatches Adelaide week from Seven.

Ratings: A week of sport gives the win to Nine, but TEN takes the demos and gives Seven a scare.

2015-01-11_1405TEN has won the weekly demos for the first time since August.

TEN dominated the 16-39, 18-49 and 25-54 demos, pushing Seven into third place and it won the week in Adelaide in Total Viewers.

In the 5 city metro share TEN was also breathing down the neck of Seven with barely 1% separating the two networks. But the week was again by Nine.

Network:
Nine: 26.9
Seven: 24.9
TEN: 23.8
ABC: 18.1
SBS: 6.3

The lift in TEN’s performance was unequivocally due to the performance of the Big Bash League, and in particular on its multichannel ONE.

Primary channel:
Nine: 17.7
Seven: 16.8
TEN: 14.7
ABC: 12.3
SBS ONE: 4.5

Multichannels:
GO!: 5.3
ONE / 7TWO: 5.2
ELEVEN: 4.0
GEM: 3.9
ABC2: 3.0
7mate: 2.9
ABC News 24: 1.7
SBS 2: 1.6
ABC3: 1.1
NITV: 0.2

The success of the Big Bash last week comes at a time when TEN has been criticised on social media (and even by some cricketers) for delaying Live coverage. Last week in Adelaide TEN made some changes to accommodate Live coverage and ended up winning the week (coincidentally the same week Adelaide’s Sunrise viewers slapped Seven).

The lift in ONE’s shares also suggests Live coverage in Perth is paying off the dividends. But in Brisbane, where coverage remains delayed viewers gave Seven the win.

Sydney: Nine
Melbourne: Nine
Brisbane: Seven
Adelaide: TEN
Perth: Seven

Nine won Tuesday – Saturday. Seven took Sunday and TEN won Monday. TEN also bettered Seven on Tuesday and Thursday. ABC beat TEN on Friday.

Nine News was the top title of the week at 1.163m and Nine’s Fourth Test S3 was the top sport drawcard of the week (1.07m).

Best for TEN was a Big Bash League ‘Super Over’ at 964,000 on Monday, outrating all of Seven’s titles (Seven News Sunday was 953,000).

ABC News Saturday (817,000) was best for broadcaster but it did have the top entertainment show of the week, a repeat of Death in Paradise at 811,000. On SBS Hidden Killers of the Edwardian Home was best at 278,000.

There are 4 more weeks before the 2015 ratings season begins.

  1. I think the BBL coverage has been excellent. Didn’t watch much of it last season and regretting it now as we are enjoying watching this season. I hope Channel 10 keep on winning with this as it is nice to have something to watch instead of repeats and failed shows. Was a shame about last night’s match being washed out.

  2. Unfortunately with the current mob running TEN into the ground they will take this news as a compliment and believe that they are running the Network better than they really are. It will just go to their big ego driven heads.

  3. One’s 8.30 movie Sat-Thu has also been rating very well too. Seems amazing to me that no Network has thought to have a movies and sport HD channel as yet.

  4. You’d have to think that if Ten had been smart enough to put the BBL live on One in QLD, with decent alternatives on its main channel, it would’ve had a very good chance of taking out second place in Total People in addition to the major demos.

Sure, less people would watch The Project live because they’d be watching BBL but you’d think that the total of viewers watching The Project on 10 plus those watching the BBL on One would exceed what they’re currently getting for The Project + ancient M*A*S*H repeats.

Ten certainly haven’t garnered a reputation for making good programming decisions over the last few years and this just helps to re-confirm that in people’s consciousness.
