Airdate: 87th Academy Awards

Get out the tux and the sequins. Nine's annual Oscars day is fast approaching.

2015-02-12_1423A number of readers have been asking if Nine will broadcast the Academy Awards Live (time to organise those parties!) and the answer is of course, an unqualified Yes.

Nine’s Oscars day coverage on Monday, February 23rd will begin with a special edition of Today with Lisa Wilkinson outside the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, joined by entertainment editor Richard Wilkins on the Red Carpet.

Throughout the morning Wilkins will also cross Live to Mornings and Nine News with regular updates, leading into a special edition of Extra presented by the ridiculously-handsome Mario Lopez (possibly on the host’s mind when this photo was taken?).

The Live broadcast itself begins at 12.30pm and will be replayed in primetime at 8.30pm on GEM.

In his first Oscars hosting role, Gone Girl star Neil Patrick Harris will perform an original number written by the team behind last year’s Best Original Song winner, Let It Go.

Cate Blanchett, Matthew McConaughey, Jared Leto and Meryl Streep will all present awards, and the broadcast will include performances from Adam Levine and Rita Ora, plus Common and John Legend.

Two Australians have been recognised for their work, with Oscar nominations in production categories: Tim Crosbie for Best Visual Effects on X-Men: Days of Future Past and David Lee for Sound Mixing on the Angelina Jolie film, Unbroken.

  1. Wow, still so far away. Of the nominated pictures I’ve seen The Imitation Game, Boyhood and Birdman. I hope TIG wins but it will probably go to Birdman.
