A psychological thriller and procedural drama, Catching Milat is a dramatised version of the investigation into the 1990s backpacker murders leading to the arrest and conviction of serial killer Ivan Milat. After the bodies of backpackers are discovered in Belanglo State Forest, New South Wales’ Police unit Task Force Air begins its search for a murderer. Ultimately the bodies of seven backpackers are found. With the help of forensic evidence and tip-offs from the public, thousands of leads are investigated before Milat is finally arrested in 1994. Catching Milat is the story of the men who brought him to justice.

  1. Sad to see that anyone would want to glorify these horrific events and turn Ivan Milat into a celebrity and make money from events that saddened society.

  2. “True Crime” is a valid and compelling drama genre. The producers have a great responsibility to tell the story truthfully and well and I’m certain the Seven network have taken this responsibility very seriously. This story has taken a long time to get to the screen. I’m sure this is going to be great drama.

  3. Hmm, can’t watch this. I can’t understand how a Network and a production company could endeavour to make entertainment and money from such a terrible violent story.

Yes @Angela, I too wonder what the relatives of the victims feel about this.

Also can’t stomach the idea of Milat watching this and gleaning any kind of satisfaction from watching his story on screen.

  4. Look forward to this with interest.
The book, Sins of The Brother, is compelling reading.
Hope this miniseries is as good.
Was doubtful about the casting of Mal as Milat but after seeing the trailer, he is a lot more convincing than expected.
Wonder how the relatives of the victims feel about this.
