An episode of Modern Family which is set to air in the US next week has been shot entirely on iPhones and iPads.
New York Times reports “Connection Lost” begins on the laptop screen of Claire Dunphy (Julie Bowen), who sits in an airport waiting for her flight. It becomes apparent very quickly that she is struggling to find her daughter Haley (Sarah Hyland) after a fight. Before long, the screen is filled with text messages, emails and FaceTime video chats with the rest of the family.
“I have two daughters at college, and we do a lot of FaceTiming,” Steve Levitan, the show’s co-creator and executive producer, said at a Q&A session last week.
“One day I was on my computer, and I had some emails open, and some websites, and then my daughter showed up. But I couldn’t only see her, but I could see me.”
Influenced by the short-film Noah by Canadian film students Walter Woodman and Patrick Cederberg, the move also adheres to the show’s title, with Cam and Mitch a modern gay family, Gloria and Jay a modern multicultural family, and the Dunphys as a family who communicate with modern technology.
Does Siri make an appearance?

Sounds even more tedious than a regular episode.
Different era, different technology – but didn’t Frontline film their episodes on Handy Cams?
20 years later… has anything really changed?
It’s all about the format of the episode, not how the episode was filmed.
Read about this earlier today on a Mac Rumors site, very interesting.
Doesn’t Web Therapy do this already, every week?
Hm. That will be interesting to watch. Hopefully it works!
Any idea when it will air here?
