Returning: Wentworth

Video: Who's top dog now? Foxtel reveals first look at Season 3 of Wentworth.

Wentworth‘s third season will premiere Tuesday April 7, at 8.30pm on SoHo.

Foxtel’s Director of Television Brian Walsh recently told TV Tonight, Season Three builds to a mighty crescendo.

Wentworth is consistently good in terms of its storytelling and performances. Series 3 which I have watched over summer is captivating. It launches in April and Pamela Rabe gives one of the best performances I’ve seen on Australian television in a long while.

“It will be a dramatic finale, let me put it that way,” he said of the season finale.

As the story resumes four months have passed since Bea Smith’s bold escape and ruthless murder of Brayden Holt.

Having returned to Wentworth Correctional Centre, Bea has assumed the mantle of Top Dog, hailed by all – including Franky Doyle herself – as a worthy successor. Franky may no longer be Top Dog but she’s not about to forget how Liz lagged on her, and Boomer is set make Liz pay. Doreen’s baby bump is growing and Ferguson is watching her closely. While Vera’s instincts are more attuned to Ferguson’s scheming, Will is none the wiser despite Fletch’s apparent hit and run accident.

Wentworth stars Danielle Cormack as Bea Smith, Nicole da Silva as Franky Doyle, Pamela Rabe as Joan Ferguson, Kate Atkinson as Vera Bennett, Celia Ireland as Liz Birdsworth, Shareena Clanton as Doreen Anderson, Katrina Milosevic as Sue “Boomer” Jenkins, Aaron Jeffery as Matthew “Fletch” Fletcher and Robbie Magasiva as Will Jackson. Supporting cast includes Socratis Otto as Maxine Conway, Georgia Chara as Jess Warner and Jacquie Brennan as Linda Miles.

Wentworth is a FremantleMedia Australia production for Foxtel. The series is distributed by FremantleMedia International and is seen in more than 80 countries.

Tuesday April 7, at 8.30pm on SoHo.

  1. I love this show and cannot wait for it to return!

Totally agree with @tomothyd re constant scheduling and start times that FTA should take note of. I have not seen any show on FTA in recent years that comes close to this!

  2. Absolutely loved season two, it certainly topped season one. Pamela Rabe was fantastic, and the changes in Vera were executed so well. The best thing about this which the FTA networks can learn a thing from is consistant scheduling, same time and day each week. Not pushed out for LCD reality or on purpose overruns.

  3. Wentworth is exceptionally brilliant Aussie Drama! The careful links to all the characters from Prisoner are a bonus that adds so much extra power to the story and characters. It would not surprise me if they burned the place down … they have done almost everything else so far! 🙂 Love this show … hope it lasts for many more seasons! Danielle Cormack and Pamela Rabe are astounding … I also love Socratis Otto as Maxine … hell, they are all great!

  4. I live near the place where Wentworth is filmed. Or should I say used to be filmed. All the buildings on the property have been bulldozed and the land is being cleared. Council have approved the property for redevelopment to include housing. :-). I wonder how S3 ends? Was there a riot? Did the prisoners burn the place down? Maybe they are transferred to a new prison? I guess we will soon find out. I love this show!!

    1. It’s been on the record that the show has to move to a new home pending a fourth season and my spies tell me they have had it secured for about a year. Hence my questions to Brian Walsh about this season ending with a grand finale. He would confirm nothing on storylines, but I would tip it burns down in a blaze. It’s not a Spoiler because I don’t actually know. The next question would be: who goes down with it?

        1. It would be fantastic if they could revisit the great Wentworth fire of the original Prisoner. The epsiode itself is easily in the top 10 best ever Prisoner episodes, and was when the series was at its peak with both Val Lehman and Maggie Kirkpatrick at their finest.

  5. I am so proud of this Aussie series! I don’t know how they can possibly top Season 2, but I’m so looking forward to season 3 – I’ve been craving my weekly Wentworth hit since the moment season 2 ended!!

  6. I love this show and every series has built to an almighty crescendo. I hope they don’t run out of ideas anytime soon as its a brilliant Australian production

    1. Could not agree more BarrieT. Last year had me on the edge of my seat with every episode and I even let out a “#$%& Yeah” when Bea shot Brandon…. By far the best Aussie TV drama in years, won’t win a “prestigious” Logie though, shame shame shame
