Seven restores David Brown to primetime weather role

A change in the weather at Seven News Melbourne as David Brown replaces Giaan Rooney for weekend news.

2015-02-15_0013Seven News has made yet another change to its Melbourne weather presenter line-up, its fourth change in 2 years.

Last night meteorologist David Brown returned to weekend bulletins alongside Jennifer Keyte, after being relegated to afternoon bulletins in February 2013.

Giaan Rooney, who replaced him on weeknights, is no longer presenting weather.

Rooney’s introduction to the role was rocky following an audience backlash over the dumping of David Brown. “My credibility is in sport, not weather. So it was really tough. Most nights I would go home and cry,” she later confided.

Rooney was replaced by Jo Silvagni when she took maternity leave from December 2013 but returned to weekends in June 2014. Meanwhile Jane Bunn replaced Silvagni last November.

Seven says she will continue to work with News and Sport.

Brown will remain Network Meteorologist role, reporting on weather, across the network Monday to Wednesday

  1. Great to see Brownie back in prime time with one of the great news readers in the country, Jennifer Keyte. The two of them have a natural warmth. Brownies informative and conversational style is second to none. On the other hand I can’t watch Bunn. A meteorologist according to media blurb, but something tells me she’s all tip and no iceberg. Her condescending tone and ‘play school’ delivery is beyond annoying. Does Play School need a weather presenter?

  2. Not a huge fan of Brown’s. His presentation hasn’t improved much from when he first started 30 years ago! Lots of “and yes..(pause)” as if he’s unsure what to say next. But at least he’s knowledgeable.

Can’t stand Jane Bunn. The weirdest and most annoying presenting style delivered with a stupid smile. And whenever she says the letter a, it isn’t spoken “uh” like normal people, but “eh”. As in A top temperature, A high pressure centre, A nice day etc. Drives our household and my friends mad. And her eighth day in the long term forecasts are often way off. Seems like a pointless novelty.

She was popular in rural Victoria. But not so much for her presenting skills 🙂

  3. David Brown only gives Melbourne weather in great detail and when it comes to Sydney watch the 4pm news to see his report its so lame. Sydney weather should be delivered in more detail.

  4. Jane Bunn has toned down her breathily, overdramatic weather presentation since she moved from Bendigo to 7 (I think that’s what happened) … but is still not very convincing.

  5. Fancy having someone do the weather…who actually knows what they are talking about…
Here in Sydney….I have only seen David Brown during the day….like what he does.

  6. Welcome back David, why they put Giaan or Jo as weather presenters is beyond me when they have a Meteorologist to do the weather who would know more about this than the two girls put together. Thank you 7 for having some common sense at last.
