45 years of Sesame Street in Australia

Four and a half decades of learning and entertainment on ABC.

On Monday ABC KIDS launches Sesame Street’s 45th anniversary season on Australian television.

For only the second time in Sesame Street’s history, three segments, including Juggling 3, T is for Turtle, and Shipwreck Discovery, all shot and produced in Queensland, have been produced by Australian production company, Carbon Media.

“In our 45th anniversary season, our audience will have even more of what they love most about Sesame Street,” said Carol-Lynn Parente, Senior Vice President and Executive Producer of Sesame Street.

“There is more music, more dancing, more interactivity and more of the characters they love so much, and now even more opportunities to watch it with an afternoon and weekend play.”

Guests this season include Michelle Obama, Viola Davis, Jonah Hill, Sir Ian McKellen, Lupita Nyong’O, Emily Blunt, Zach Braff, Claire Danes, Tina Fey, Jane Krakowski, Emmy Rossum, Zach Galifianakis, Christina Hendricks, Mindy Kaling, Jack McBrayer and Zachary Quinto, Michael Bublé, Macklemore, Josh Gad, Janelle Monáe, Ed Sheeran, Taye Diggs, Brittany Snow, Ice Cube, Kat Dennings, Seth Meyers, Zachary Levi, One Direction, Adam Scott, Aziz Ansar, Andy Cohen and NBA All-Star Pau Gasol.

This season’s spoofs include: “House of Bricks,” “Game of Chairs,” and more.

Each weekday morning on ABCKids at 9am and 12pm from Monday 23rd March.

  1. I remember when Sesame Street started in the black and white days my sister said that the show was “mind deducing” in colour. When colour TV started I watched it and – far from being “mind deducing” – the colour production was rather restrained when compared to shows like Countdown at the time.
