As expected, Charlie Pickering’s new News / Comedy / Opinion series The Weekly with Charlie Pickering will replace Mad as Hell from late April.

The show kicks off 8:30pm Wednesday April 22 on ABC.

Featuring Kitty Flanagan and Tom Gleeson, this one will be a big commitment at 20 episodes, so it will need to do well.

Australians demand a show that keeps its promises and The Weekly with Charlie Pickering promises to be both weekly and hosted by Charlie Pickering.

A brand new half-hour comedy show that shoves a broom handle into the spinning wheel of the news cycle, The Weekly with Charlie Pickering shines a light on the bits of the week’s news that you didn’t notice, as well as some bits you were noticing when you didn’t notice the other stuff. Backed up by heavy-weight comedians Tom Gleeson & Kitty Flanagan, who both object to that description, The Weekly will expose the humorous, the absurd and the downright hypocritical, 24/7, once a week.

The Weekly: the news you need, a few days after you need it.

  1. When i first saw the ad of this i thought it was just a joke. But when they mentioned when it will begin i was puzzled.I’m not to sure about it to be honest

    1. Is this the same ABC that has recently been showing all the favourable coverage about Malcolm Fraser? Interesting how right-wing ratbags, who were loudly complaining about ABC being biased for showing tributes to Gough Whitlam when he passed, have been strangely silent now they’ve been displaying the same courtesy with regard to Fraser’s legacy.

  2. He’s going to have to be at the top of his game because Shaun has been on fire on Mad as Hell. If I was the ABC I would’ve seriously considered continuing Mad as Hell given the ratings and the quality of the show and ran Charlie’s show after it.

  3. This was a “must see” until I read Kitty Flanaghan was involved. She is just not funny in my opinion (I don’t like ‘mean’ comedians)…then it became a “must not”
Ditto for Tom Gleeson he used to be so sharp as a comic now he just dials in the same tired old schtick. I do like Charlie but his choice of co stars is abysmal.
