This week ABC’s Catalyst takes a look at “Powering the Mind,” delving into how memories shape our later lives.

What is memory? It is our capacity to learn, it is the part of our past that makes us who we are. But it is also a whole lot more. In this episode of Catalyst, Anja Taylor investigates how our memories change from childhood to adulthood and how we can build up greater brain reserves to power our mind into old age.

Anja visits a memory clinician to find out what kind of forgetfulness is normal and when it is time to worry, and reveals groundbreaking Australian research on brain epigenetics – how the expression of our DNA can be changed by our experiences and even those of our parents!

It is an intriguing new area of science with huge health implications.

8pm Tuesday on ABC.
