ABC has appointed Marianne Leitch as Executive Producer of Foreign Correspondent.

She has been acting in the role since Steve Taylor joined Sunday Night.

Leitch was a member of the original team that began Foreign Correspondent in 1992. She has produced many memorable stories for the program in locations as diverse as the Democratic Republic of Congo, Greenland and the Himalayas. Since 2005 she has combined field producing with the role of Associate Producer of the program.

ABC Head of Current Affairs Bruce Belsham said: “Marianne is an exceptionally experienced and capable journalist and Foreign Correspondent will be in terrific hands.”

Leitch has been a journalist for more than 30 years, beginning as a reporter on a country newspaper in Armidale NSW, then freelancing in Sydney and London before joining international television news agency Worldwide Television News. She returned to Australia to work for ABC News on the international desk.

Foreign Correspondent returns to ABC in mid April.
