Jeremy Clarkson has written about a cancer scare he faced two days before he lashed out at a Top Gear producer.

Writing for the Sunday Times, he said, “Two days before the ‘fracas’, I’d been told, sternly, by my doctor that the lump on my tongue was probably cancer and that I must get it checked out immediately,”

“But I couldn’t do that. We were in the middle of a Top Gear series. And Top Gear always came first.”

He has since been given the medical all-clear.

Meanwhile he also flagged creating “another car show” after the end of his BBC contract.

“It was an all-consuming entity, a many-tentacled global monster that was dysfunctional and awkward and mad but I loved it with a passion. I loved it like my own child,” he wrote.

“I have lost my baby but I shall create another,” he revealed. “I don’t know who the other parent will be or what the baby will be like, but I cannot sit around any more organising my photograph albums.

“The hole it’s left behind seems to stretch for eternity … you need to have a long term strategy. You need something that will fill the void.”

Clarkson will travel to Australia in July for a re-branded event in Sydney and Melbourne with pals Richard Hammond and James May.

  1. It doesn’t excuse it but at least you can under stand why he cracked, long days work and he just wants a decent meal.

Really hope the 3 guys can work out a deal to do a similar show else where in 2016 and beyond.

    1. Sorry, but some people who belt others in domestic violence scenarios (and men suffer from this too) claim long days at work and just wanting a decent meal. For me, zero tolerance on violence which reminds me David, I have started noting the shows now where a woman slaps or hits a man. Most are retro type shows but I am yet to see a feminist point out the obvious – it’s not ok to hit a man..or a woman.

      1. I agree there is no excuse for his actions (said so in my post) I was just pointing out with this new info you can understand why he snapped. I’m betting given the same situation most people would also snap and lash out.

        1. Craig, we will have to agree to disagree. You say there’s no excuse but then you provide one. To suggest most people would also “snap and lash out” is a shame because I know several men and women who steel themselves and take a time out or similar rather than lash out.

        2. As someone who has been diagnosed with cancer and managed to get through this and the subsequent radiation and chemotherapy without hitting a single soul, I find it extremely offensive to suggest it is understandable to behave this way.

  2. If that is supposed to be an excuse for him assaulting the producer, then I don’t buy it. He obviously has an attitude problem to start with, cancer scare or not.
