Report: Nine casting Celebrity Big Brother

Nine planning one more roll of Big Brother -with UK model Katie Price?

Nine may not be bringing back Big Brother this year but that doesn’t mean it’s done with the format just yet.

UK newspaper The Sun reports model and ex Mrs. Peter Andre, Katie Price, has been pursued for Celebrity Big Brother.

A source told the newspaper, “Katie Price has a huge Aussie following and would be a big coup for the network.

“Appearing in the series would help increase her profile further, but any deal has to be on her terms.”

Price, who recently won Celebrity Big Brother UK, also recently told The Morning Show, “I’ve got something big coming up in Australia, so I’m going to be in Australia for, I think, around three months.

”I have a big job happening. I have a project over there and so I can’t wait to come over for three or four months.”

Whether the two projects are the same isn’t clear.

The newspaper suggests Nine were also hoping to persuade her Big Brother rival Katie Hopkins to participate, but Hopkins reportedly wasn’t interested.

Nine is yet to declare its position on Big Brother for 2015 but interest in I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out! of Here! may have motivated them to give the format one more roll of the dice.

Celebrity Big Brother last aired in Australia in 2002.

  1. I watched the recent CBBUK which Katie won. She was so boring and the fact that she was an intruder who didn’t really do anything probably made it worse. But then again when you had Perez Hilton being a complete twat in the house and causing grief for the others and Katie Hopkins making it worse, I too would probably stand back and watch.

The problem with CBB is that Channel 9 will need to be really careful who they put in the house. Since they don’t want a repeat of the recent CBBUK that saw 2 contestants removed in the first week for racial remarks and inappropriate behaviour and another walk out because they felt unsafe.

  2. I watched Celebrity Big Brother UK featuring Katie Price. The main problem is that she was boring! I know some people here may know her, but she didn’t make interesting TV and wouldn’t be worth the cost of having her appear on the show. I like the idea of Big Brother coming back if it returns to basics and has a variety of people and opinions.

  3. The problem with Katie Price is that 99.9% of Australians would have no idea who she was. At least with Maureen McCormick there was probably at least 50% of Australia who knew who she or Marcia Brady was.

  4. This sounds right up Nines alley – lots of hype, gimmicks, twists and power plays that ruined the series last year. Why not go back to basics like MasterChef?

I honestly doubt that Nine would have room on the schedule this year with Reno Rumble, The Voice another Block and the stripped food show still to come.

  5. Supergrass said in mid March that Ten were looking to fast track season 2 of I Am A Celebrity at the back half of 2015, extend show to 12 weeks, shoot the show in Australia, bigger stars and potentially one host will go

    1. The thing about filming the IACGMOOH in Australia is that the costs would be quite expensive. Ten really need to think more carefully in terms of a suitable host, e.g. Hamish and Andy.

      1. The British edition films here so the infrastructure is here and Chris and Julie had a good dynamic as host, while I like your idea of H & A, Chris and Julie worked well together.

  6. The thing is, when Big Bro first appeared on our TV screens there was no such thing as reality TV as such. Along with Survivor, Big Brother invented a new genre. The problem is that unlike Survivor, BB doesn’t reinvent it’s self for the audience each season. BB is too gimmicky now. It needs to go back to the days where it was about people and their interaction with one another. Forget the tasks, make it about the people. The cast needs to be a group of people from all walks of life, not just a token non-caucasian. Actually use an eclectic mix of races, ages, religions e.t.c. Next season let’s see a maximum of 3 20 yr olds, 3 30 yr olds, 3 40 yr olds e.t.c.
Go back to how it was, make us intrigued by the show. Celebrity or not.

    1. Yeah they lost sight of the show. They also cast it with wannabe celebs.

There is the issue that the landscape has changed, people going on the shows are aware of the format too much, that getting it to be natural would be hard. That doesn’t mean they shouldn’t try.

The problem with tasks is the producers are trying too much to run life in the house. So people sit around in the sun or in the gym waiting for BB to entertain them. So life doesn’t happen.

When you look at the two seasons on Nine, I don’t think I remember any gimmicks or any tasks. I do however remember things that happened out of who people were. Bullying, lying, even creepy romance. Fights, arguments and all the stuff the show is meant to be about. The producers need to get out of the way and make it all about this again.

        1. I agree, its really gimmicky. Strip it to the bare basics of the concept. Only have BB interact when absolutely necessary.
No tasks. Just people interacting. This will push the HMs to create their own entertainment.
We need conflicting views, no big personalities. I think they should definitely try to do it again. I would love to see them get rid of the pool and garden, make it a part of the inside of the house, there are enough spaces for them to talk in the house.
Allow them to talk nominations, the public vote anyway and it would change the game up. (But don’t tell the contestants until they get in the house.) Imagine the controversy!
Finally BB needs to return to the authoritative figure, not the current trend to be bests with the HMs.
Change it up, but go back to basics in a new way.

          1. Given we are now in April, a general BB is becoming less likely for 2015. Last year Auditions were called in early March, presumably with some planning before this. As the story noted, Celebrity BB appears to be a roll of the dice to see the franchise still has some value (Apprentice became Celeb Apprentice before it ended). Those wanting TEN to pick it up will have to wait much longer.

  7. Katie Price has a huge Aussie following..? For what, she does nothing, she is even more of a nobody here than in the UK. If it were not for her infreuquent appearances on Graham Norton or Chatty Man, I’d have no idea that she was still alive.
If this show does go ahead, it will be the typical D class, with retired\little known sports stars, sydney\melbourne radio hosts\ unknowns and former channel 9 faces.
