It’s a sign of the times, Margaret Pomeranz is now reviewing Reality TV and takes a look at MasterChef Australia and Australia’s Next Top Model.

While she is in unhappy about one reference on ANTM, she admits to finding MasterChef “totally addictive” (quick, get that on the promo!) adding, “I ended up bawling my eyes out at the end.”

Politically, it is also interesting that the show is praising an FTA Reality whilst there are questions about a FOX8 brand -but to me that just indicates they are sticking to their reviewing credibility.

Also tonight:

There’s an independent film focus with an interview with Director, Dean Francis, who has made the darkly disturbing Drowned which reveals the homophobic world of Australian surf lifesaving. It’s currently showing in 28 cities in Germany and has distributors in the UK and America on board. But not in Australia.

They also look at Unfriended and the Internet Trawler of the week is Rhys Nicholson who has uncovered “Just One Step Closer to Home” a hugely popular Australian soap satire online.

8pm tonight on Foxtel Arts.

  1. Margaret’s intelligence, intellect and movie knowledge are wasted on reviewing Reality TV shows. Scripted drama they may be but they’re also utterly forgettable.

    1. Actually, for the same traits I would argue that she could be an invaluable reviewer. There are reality shows and reality shows after all and her discernment could be timely. For example, the endless rounds and drama of one series this year when viewers just craved for ‘back to basics’. Until now, ratings has really been the only influencing critical voice.
